Banished by the great wizard Shazam for abusing his powers, Black Adam spends 5,000 years traveling through the universe to exact his revenge. Surely, then, a few more years won't be too much of a hassle.
Based on the popular characters from the "Captain Marvel" comic series, "Billy Batson and the Legend of Shazam," is still a go, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson told MTV News at Comic-Con, but a while away from becoming a reality.
"We're [still] waiting for the script to come out," he said.
It's a somewhat curious statement coming from Johnson, given that "Shazam" screenwriter John August told us he had completed a draft as early as last year. But it's a statement Johnson is able to make at all thanks, at least in part, to MTV Movies Blog readers, who helped Johnson, in discussion to play both Adam and Captain Marvel, decide on the former.
Although unsure early on, Johnson's trepidation has become unmitigated excitement, he confessed, saying he was "blown away" by the villainous Adam, who will be very dark and despairing despite the film's overall comedic tone.
"What's interesting for me about Black Adam is that it was something I've never done before. There's an intensity and a blackness to Black Adam that I find intriguing," he gushed. "I find him [so] interesting - I was blown away."
You voted, so you know we think The Rock is perfect for Black Adam. But now that he's developing the character, what MUST he know to include? What's the essence of the character for you? Sound off on your thoughts and advice below.
