Christian Bale in 'The Dark Knight'As the comic world waits to hear official news about whether or not Chris Nolan will come back to the "Batman" franchise and which villains will have the Caped Crusader reaching for the Bat-Aspirin, over on Batman-On-Film, reports are trickling in that production on the upcoming sequel to "The Dark Knight" could be farther along than Warner Bros. is letting on.

Granted, these reports come from unnamed sources, so take all this as fun speculation, but rumors coming out of Chicago say that pre-pre-production has commenced -- specifically, set builders, stuntmen and film crews are currently being hired for the project. As Batman-On-Film states, it's not out of the ordinary for these types of jobs to be filled this early on (since these are roles that can't be filled at the last minute), but it's still looking like February 2009 will be the official pre-production start date. The ComedianAnyone who has read "Watchmen" already knows the story is populated with former superheroes coping with real world problems and their own personal demons. However, none of these characters can hold a candle to The Comedian in terms of being a flat-out jerkstore (he's actually much worse than that, but this is a family show here, people!), and for Jeffrey Dean Morgan -- the actor who will play The Comedian in "Watchmen" -- his horrible behavior really took a lot of getting used to.

"He does kind of have a twisted sense of humor," said Morgan. "There were days that weren't necessarily easy -- because he kind of does some sick things -- and so there were a couple days where, as an actor, that trying to justify what I was doing was a little difficult. But at the end of the day, man, it was awesome. How often are you going to get a chance to play the creepiest guy in the world? [Laugh]." Read More...

Admit it: half the fun of watching “Iron Man” in theaters was looking for little comic tidbits, throw-aways and cameos that hinted at a larger Marvel Universe. We squinted to see Captain America’s shield in Tony’s workshop. We stayed through the credits to watch the cameo by Nick Fury (Sam Jackson).

Now that “Iron Man” is coming out on DVD today (check out an exclusive bonus feature below), we wanted to know: was their anything we missed? “Actually, the fans are catching more than we're catching!” co-writer Hawk Ostby said. “They're making connections that we were like 'Huh? Oh yeah!.' I think everything that we put in deliberately seems to have been ferreted out.”

But while there might not be anything else in the movie itself for fans to salivate over, there will still be plenty on the DVD, the pair said, including several deleted scenes. In particular, Ostby said he wanted fans to pay special attention to a scene between bad-guy Obadiah Stane and Tony Stark, his favorite moment that didn’t make it into the final version. ThorWith the internet absolutely a'blaze over the recent announcement that Kenneth Branagh could possibly be the director on Marvel's upcoming "Thor" film, Splash Page decided to get current "Thor" comics writer J. Michael Straczynski's take on the news.

"Honestly, I can't imagine anyone better suited to this," said Straczynski, who is more widely known as the creator of "Babylon 5” and more recently, the screenwriter of the upcoming Clint Eastwood-directed Oscar contender "Changeling." "'Thor,' at his best, has always had a classical bent to the character in terms of his history, the way he speaks, and the often Shakespearean intrigues and dramas that surround him. That kind of dialogue and character needs the hand of someone who comes from a theatrical/classically trained background in order for it not to sound forced or artificial. Branagh is absolutely the perfect choice." Read More...

'Hercules: The Thracian Wars'Don't expect the upcoming adapation of "Hercules" to be just another swords-and-sandals film -- for one thing, it comes from the Radical series "Hercules: The Thracian Wars," not the DC or Marvel versions of the demigod, which means it's "a whole lot darker," says Radical president and publisher Barry Levine. He expects this version, to be produced and directed by Peter Berg, to be more "300” than "Troy" or "Alexander."

"It's all about taste," Levine said. "What would have '300’ been without Zack Snyder? He gave it a stylization. There were no stars. There didn't need to be. If you have taste and you stay true to the concept and the characters, there's a lot of embellishment you can do." Read More...

'Iron Man'In an effort to make sure every single person on the planet gets a chance to see this summer's blockbuster "Iron Man" (which hits stores on DVD and Blu-Ray Sept. 30), Paramount Pictures -- who made headlines yesterday by teaming-up with Marvel Studios -- and Dell Computers will offer an exclusive deal in which purchasers of a new Dell computer will be given the option of ordering "Iron Man" pre-installed for $20 (which includes exclusive bonus footage).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dell's partnership with Paramount is a clear attempt to compete with Apple's iTunes Store, and the company plans to offer more Paramount films in the future for preload on new computers. Read More...

Doctor ManhattanWell before the "Watchmen" film was green lit -- and even in the time since -- one of the elements of the original graphic novel that many believed impossible to recreate in live-action form was the near-omnipotent, atom-manipulating Doctor Manhattan. From what we've seen thus far of the "Watchmen" film, Zack Snyder and his crew have done an admirable job with the project, thanks to effects specialists like Alan McFarland, who managed the lighting effects for Doctor Manhattan.

In an interview with UGO, McFarland discussed the motion-capture suit he designed for Billy Crudup, the actor who portrays Dr. Manhattan, which included head-to-toe blue LEDs.

"The purpose of the blue LEDs actually had nothing to do with capturing Billy’s performance-- they were there to supply the blue glow on Dr. Manhattan’s surroundings," explained McFarland. "That creates a much better look for Dr. Manhattan’s blue halo that had it been done entirely in post with CG. Under software control, the brightness of the LEDs could be set to DP Larry Fong’s exact specifications and it would self-monitor to maintain those levels." Read More...

Kirsten DunstFor quite some time now, "Spider-Man" star Kirsten Dunst has had one major condition as to whether or not she'd sign-up for any future sequels of the franchise -- that director Sam Raimi and co-star Tobey Maguire be signed on as well.

Well, now that the news has broken that both Raimi and Maguire have signed back on for a fourth and fifth installment -- with a hefty paycheck attached as well -- MTV News posed the big question to Dunst while she was promoting her upcoming film, "How to Lose Friends and Alienate People" with Simon Pegg. Is she in or is she out?

"I'm in," said the actress matter of factly. However, when pressed to make the announcement official, Dunst quickly changed her tone, and rather cryptically added, "I'm not saying anything, I know there's rumors..." Read More...

Captain AmericaOn IMDB's trivia section for “Iron Man," there’s a line stating that at some point in the flick’s development, Tony Stark was supposed to fight his actual father, Howard Stark, and not father surrogate Obadiah Stane.

Not true, “Iron Man” screenwriters Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby told MTV News. Well, unless you mean that they would fight metaphorically. And in..."Captain America"?

Could Howard Stark, of whom so little is known in the official Marvel canon, be one of the scientists responsible for creating Captain America, thus tying the shared universe that much closer together? Can you think of a MORE plausible scenario given what Fergus says below?

“Certainly [Tony’s] relationship with his father is something we wanted to do a lot more of in this film, but again you had to pick and choose. [But] that relationship with his father and this person you only heard about in the first movie is going to be much more fully explored,” he teased. “Basically, Tony was a young adult or a teenager when his father died and that relationship will be played up in a lot of cool ways in other Marvel movies and also through…” he continued, before suddenly breaking off as if catching himself, pausing, and ending with, “The relationship will definitely be explored a lot further.” Read More...

The AvengersHot on the heels of "Iron Man" snagging upwards of half-a-billion dollars at the box office, Marvel and Paramount Pictures (like MTV, a division of Viacom) have announced that the companies are extending their distribution deal to include a host of future projects. Among them, "The Avengers" (July 15, 2011) and a previously unannounced, but expected, "Iron Man 3” (which doesn't ensure a threequel is happening, but studios like to plan ahead).

Additional titles in the deal include "Iron Man 2” (May 7, 2010), "Thor" (July 16, 2010) and "The First Avenger: Captain America" (May 6, 2011). Read More...
