As S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson in "Iron Man," actor Clark Gregg had a difficult time capturing the attention of Tony Stark. However, Gregg recently told MTV News that he hopes his character's persistence will pay off with a return to the Marvel Universe in the upcoming "Iron Man" sequel.
During an interview for "Choke," which Gregg adapted and and directed from a Chuck Pahlaniuk novel, the actor credited Marvel Studios exec Jeremy Latcham for bringing him up to speed with Marvel's armored Avenger and the government agency looking to team him up with a variety of other Marvel superheroes.
"[Latcham] sent me over this unbelievable 'Iron Man' bible with everything about S.H.I.E.L.D.," said Gregg. "I did read some comics when I was a kid, but that was a while ago."
As for the cameo of S.H.I.E.L.D. head honcho Nick Fury after the closing credits of the film, Gregg said he couldn't imagine a better boss than Sam Jackson, who appeared at the end of the film to offer Tony Stark a role in the "Avenger Initiative."
According to Gregg, "it’s safe to say Sam Jackson is the coolest boss you could have."
"There are two people I want to work for: Barack Obama and Nick Fury," he added.
With a break looming for the television series "The New Adventures of Old Christine," in which he has a recurring role, Gregg said the timing couldn't be better to return to Agent Coulson and S.H.I.E.L.D.
"'Iron Man 2” starts up in the spring right when 'The New Adventures of Old Christine' finishes, so I am available if any of the 'Iron Man 2' people are listening," said Gregg.
What characters from "Iron Man" would you like to see return in "Iron Man 2?" What new characters would you like to see?
