The "Watchmen" film feud between Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox will get its day in court - and well ahead of the Warner's intended March 6 release date.
Variety reports that a Los Angeles federal judge has set a January 6 court date for the two studios to begin "discovery and deposition proceedings" in the case. 20th Century Fox alledges that it retained distribution rights to the groundbreaking graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons due to an rights deal dating back to 1994. As Splash Page reported yesterday, Warner Bros. has expressed a desire to go on the offensive and take Fox' legal department to task for "sitting silently" while the film's producer shopped the project to Warner Bros. and other studios.
Warner Bros. has refused to back down from the film's March release date thus far, and the federal judge for the case has urged both parties to speed the process along as much as possible. Fox previously requested a June court date - which would have put the film's opening in question - but with the January date set, things look to get even more complicated for "Watchmen" in the near future.
When do you think we'll be able to finally watch the "Watchmen?" Let us know in the comments!
