Variety recently posted an in-depth analysis of 20th Century Fox's lackluster summer in terms of box office returns, citing the fact that the studio didn't manage to produce a film that grossed over $100 million (while most of the other major studios each had three films that grossed that amount). That being the case, the article states that Fox execs plan on meeting very soon to discuss a strategy moving forward, which will most likely involve a return to comic-based films in the coming summers.
Among those rumored to be discussed are an "X-Men" prequel, a possible revisit to Hell Kitchen with a "Daredevil" sequel, and even a "Deadpool" spin-off if "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" does as well as they hope (and if fans don't boycott the film).
While most of these projects have been rumored to be happening for some time now, it's clear that Fox is now well-aware that they missed the boat this summer by not releasing a comic adaptation. For example, a "Young X-Men" rumor had been making the rounds on the internet as recently as last May, reaching a fever-pitch when "Gossip Girl" producer Josh Schwartz was reportedly attached as a screenwriter (that story was quickly redacted). However, two months later, "X-Men: First Class" was listed in Production Weekly, causing speculation to begin anew.
What comic films would you like to see from Fox? Do any of the ones mentioned above sound like they're worth the ten bucks? Speak your mind in the comments below.
