Italian blog BadTaste offers up highlights from the transcript of a recent Q&A with Frank Miller which took place in Rome, where the writer/director defended his vision of "The Spirit," hinted at the status of "Sin City 2," and -- short of new issues of DC's "All-Star Batman and Robin" -- if he plans on ever returning to comics.
In response to the fan backlash after the first round of "Spirit" trailers hit the web, Miller defended his choices in terms of both look and subject material, saying, "I adapted 'The Spirit' to these changing times and now it seems more similar to my work. When I was in the director's chair, I had the feeling that Will Eisner was behind me, even if he's dead."
He also hyped up Samuel L. Jackson's performance as the film's glam-rocked-out villain, The Octopus. "It was the first time that Samuel Jackson played a supervillain," noted Miller. "I have to tell you, he's like an atomic bomb."
Fans also inquired about the status of "Sin City 2," to which Miller replied, "I don't believe a movie is real until I see the title on the screen. But I can tell you that I'm very close to begin 'Sin City 2' with Robert Rodriguez. We have to arrange a few things and we'll be back in action."
And given his recent successes with film, will Miller ever return to making comics besides his current run on "All-Star Batman and Robin?"
"Nowadays, I'm not planning to make new comics, because I'm too much in love with making movies," said Miller.
Do you agree with the direction Miller has taken "The Spirit?" Are you looking forward to Jackson's portrayal of The Octopus? How about "Sin City 2?" And do you think Miller should make a return to comics, or stay in the movie biz? Let's get those comments going!
