Ever since casting calls for "Spider-Man: The Musical" first began circulating back in 2007, the 'Tubes have been buzzing about Broadway veteran Julie Taymor's crossover with the comics world.
Along with a score penned by U2 bandmates Bono and The Edge, the project is rumored to feature Taymor's "Across the Universe" stars Jim Sturgess and Evan Rachel Wood as Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson, respectively. And now the musical just might have a release date, too.
According to IESB, Marvel Studios chairman David Maisel announced to attendees at today's Thomas Weisel Consumer Conference that he expects the musical to debut in 2009 -- a full year ahead of previously reported release schedules. Earlier this year, reports leaked from workshops related to the project had first pegged Sturgess and Wood as the film's leads, and a subsequent interview with Sturgess on Cinematical seemed to confirm the actor's involvement with the project.
