Over at the MTV News Mothership, we painstakingly detailed nearly every shot from over 20 minutes of “Watchmen” footage we were lucky enough to see last night, including a cold open and credit montage that left my jaw inches from the floor.
But just as impressive as the footage itself, is director Zack Snyder himself, who holds court with the confidence of skilled master, ready with a quick and thoughtful answer to nearly every question.
Nearly.
Asked how the Fox lawsuit was affecting production on the eagerly awaited adaptation, Snyder was decidedly mum. “I’m not a lawyer, so it’s hard for me to comment,” he said. “And I probably shouldn’t.”
In regards to just about everything else a fanboy or girl would want to know?
How long is it?
“Run time now is right around 2 hours and 43 minutes,” he said, adding that he doesn’t expect it to get much shorter.
The Black Freighter?
The comic-within-a-comic will be released by Warner Premier packaged with “Under the Hood,” a mockumentary using interviews the actors gave in character about the world of “Watchmen.” We knew the “Black Freighter” was going to hit DVD. I might have had wax in my ears when he said it, but Snyder seemed to indicate, however, that if all goes to plan, an extended cut may also reach theaters.
Tie-in Game?
Reports of problems with the game surfaced earlier in the summer. Snyder said they’ve moved past that (it has nothing to do with his recent deal with EA), and have created a game that’s “awesome,” he said. He’s working with the developers as much as he can, but cautions that it can’t in any real way be called his.
On sequel talk? (Patrick Wilson, we’re looking at you!)
“There can’t be a sequel – or a prequel! Not with me involved,” Snyder insisted. “That’s crazy talk!”
Remember to check out our shot by shot analysis of the footage and let us know what you think about your excitement level for the film: Is it at 11 now? If not, how do you like life as a boring dullard? Sound off on all “Watchmen”-related errata below.
