Fox Looks Towards Possible ‘Daredevil’ Reboot

'Daredevil'It worked with Hulk, so why not Daredevil? According to an interview with 20th Century Fox co-chairman Tom Rothman, the studio is “thinking very seriously about” a reboot of Marvel’s blind hero, Daredevil.

“I think that the thing the Hulk showed although, it did what it did, is that it is possible, that if you really do it right the audience will give you a second chance,” Rothman told IESB. “And I think that you see that when they did ‘Batman Begins,’ the first Nolan movie, that you can have made some mistakes along the way or movies that the audience wasn’t that crazy about and then given the proper amount of time and the right creative vision behind it, you can, to use your word, reboot.”

While 2003’s “Daredevil,” directed by Mark Steven Johnson and starring Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner and Colin Farrell, generated decent receipts (over $100 million in the U.S.), the film was generally panned by critics and, for the most part, viewers. Earlier this month, Variety reported that a new “Daredevil” film was indeed in discussion at Fox HQ, given the studio’s lackluster summer.

So would a reboot of Marvel’s blind, Hell’s Kitchen hero head in a different direction — a bit darker, perhaps?

“I don’t know because what it really needs is, it needs a visionary at the level that Chris Nolan [director of 'Batman Begins' and 'The Dark Knight'] was,” said Rothman. “It needs someone, it needs a director, honestly, who has a genuine vision. What we wouldn’t do is just do it for the sake of doing it.”

While details surrounding any new “Daredevil” project are sketchy at the moment, it’s a pretty good bet that the much-maligned 2003 Daredevil Ben Affleck won’t be playing the lead if/when a new project comes together.

Would you like to see a “Daredevil” reboot? If so, who would you cast as Matt Murdock/Daredevil? What villains or storylines would you like to see?
