You can officially be jealous of Kat Dennings now. Not only does she have an infinite playlist, but now she has a theoretical superhero as a best friend. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dennings is in talks to join Woody Harrelson and Sandra Oh in "Defendor," the directorial debut from Peter Stebbings.
Harrelson plays a man who believes he has a secret superhero identity -- the Defendor of the title. Dennings will play a teenager he befriends -- and who, I imagine, is the only one to believe him. Oh will be trading her "Grey's Anatomy" scrubs for a different field of medicine, as she will play Harrelson's psychiatrist.
Details on this film are rather scarce -- is it a comedy? A drama? A combination of both? I'm hoping it's a comedy, something in the style of "Mystery Men" and not a weepy study of the true nature of (super)heroism. The comic book/superhero genre is still too fragile and easily sneered at to start tackling the "K-Pax" kind of tales.
Am I wrong, MTV readers? Am I merely biased because this isn't based on a graphic novel? Or did the seriousness of "The Dark Knight" open the Hollywood floodgates to all kinds of teary and ambiguous superheroes?
