‘The Graysons’ Will Not Replace ‘Smallville,’ Say Executive Producers

'Smallville'“Smallville” fans can breath a sigh of relief.

Dedicated “Smallville” website, KryptonSite.com, has posted a special message from the show’s executive producers — Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders — saying that “The Graysons” (which reportedly would do for Batman’s sidekick Robin what “Smallville” did for the Superman origin) will in fact not be replacing “Smallville,” and that fans can expect the show to finish off it’s eighth season and likewise return for a ninth as planned.

As previously mentioned, “The Graysons” will follow young Dick “DJ” Grayson’s trials and tribulations of being a kid growing up in a very close-knit family of circus performers, much along the lines of “Smallville’s” take on young Clark Kent early years in Kansas. In the comics lore, Grayson eventually witnesses the death of his parents, which leads him to a life of crime fighting alongside Batman on the mean streets of Gotham City as Robin.

However, according to the recent announcement, Souders and Peterson (who are also co-executive producing “The Graysons” along with producer/director McG) say they plan on giving the Robin origin story an original spin. It was also speculated earlier that “The Graysons” would serve as a replacement for “Smallville,” after seeing the show’s viewership dwindle in recent years.

Happy with this news, “Smallville” fans? Or do you think it’s time for the show to come to a close? Talk it up in the comments.
