Fashion Icon Diane Von Furstenberg Teams Up With Wonder Woman In New Comic, Clothing Line

Diane von FurstenbergRarely do the worlds of comics and high fashion ever intersect. Sure, there was comic artist Paul Pope’s recent partnership with DKNY JEANS, and designer Marc Ecko has often appropriated Marvel Comics and “Star Wars” characters in his clothing designs just to name a few, but other than that, comic fans usually abide by the standard “worn hoody and sneakers” uniform.

However, legendary fashion icon Diane von Furstenberg will be taking a cue from the pages of “Wonder Woman” in her upcoming holiday collection. According to a report on WWD.com, von Furstenberg’s upcoming “Wonder Woman”-inspired line of clothes are only a small part of her foray into the world of comics — the designer will also be releasing an original comic through DC Comics titled, “Be the Wonder Woman You Can Be, Featuring the Adventures of Diva, Viva & Fifa,” which will feature illustrations by Konstantin Kakanias, essays by Gloria Steinem and Les Daniels, a letter from “Wonder Woman actress Lynda Carter, a reprint of Wonder Woman’s first adventure, and several early covers.

Von Furstenberg will also be writing a story for the book which follows three friends — Diva, Viva and Fifa — who become empowered through seemingly everyday situations. The book will be available exclusively at von Furstenberg DVF boutiques and at dvf.com for $25, in addition to a special $50 T-shirt and a $230 tote. All proceeds from the line will go to the Vital Voices organization, which “identifies, trains, and empowers emerging women leaders and social entrepreneurs around the globe.”
