Much like his hyper-mysterious origin in the comics, news about 2009's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" has remained shrouded in secrecy. With the exception of co-star Lynn Collins explaining her character's (The Silver Fox) love affair with the X-Men's resident berzerker, and rumors regarding onset turmoil, details about "Wolverine" have been few and far between.
Fortunately, the fine folks at ComingSoon.net have got your hook-up. Catching up with "Wolverine" producer (and soon-to-be recipient of a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame) Lauren Shuler Donner at a red carpet event, the crew managed to get some more info regarding the upcoming film, as well as her thoughts on a possible Deadpool spin-off.
What Donner promises to be a "darker and sadder and kick-ass" film than its "X-Men" predecesors, "Wolverine" will take cues from Marvel's "Logan" comic mini-series (which attempted to tell the story of the early life of the boy who would eventually become Wolverine), but despite the origin story, Donner couldn't stress enough that there will be plenty of action to counteract any deep storyline.
However, one of the big rumors floating around lately has been the idea of a possible spin-off from "Wolverine" which would follow the exploits of Marvel's "Merc with a Mouth," Deadpool (played by Ryan Reynolds in the film). Donner couldn't agree more that a Deadpool follow-up should happen given Reynolds' portrayal of the character in the film, although she made no statement that would lead readers to believe that a Deadpool film is officially in the works.
She also noted that the now-obligatory Stan Lee cameo in Marvel films might not happen in "Wolverine," given that the film was shot in Australia, but adds that they might be able to add him in since some additional shooting will be taking place stateside in January.
How 'bout it, Wolverine fans? Think "Wolverine" will be a winner next year? Talk about it in the comments.
