It's long been a property that fans have been scratching their heads and asking, "why isn't this a movie or TV series yet?" but for fans of writer Bill Willingham's hit Vertigo Comics series "Fables" the wait is finally over.
This morning, The Hollywood Reporter has announced that "Fables" -- the story of popular characters from fairy tales and folklore who live in exile within a secret community in modern-day New York City -- will get the hour-long TV series treatment at ABC television. According to the Hollywood Reporter piece, the network has tapped "Six Degrees" creators/executive producers Stu Zicherman and Raven Metzner to write the script for the series, and television veteran David Semel will direct.
Naturally, concrete details about what fans of the series can expect are scarce at this early point in the process, but Zicherman and Metzner did say that the comic's main characters -- Snow White and the Big Bad Wolf (a.k.a. Bigby Wolf) -- would play central roles to the series. The writers also hinted that the first storyarc of the TV series would revolve around the murder of Snow White's party-girl sister, Rose Red, similar to the first arc of the comic book series.
However, die-hard "Fables" fans will recall that this isn't the first attempt to bring "Fables" to the small screen. NBC tried to develop the series during its 2006-2007 season with writer Craig Silverstein attached, but inevitably never took off.
Whaddya say, "Fables" fans? Looking forward to a weekly TV series based on the comic? Who would you like to see play the roles of Snow White and Bigby Wolf? Talk to us in the comments!
