It's been a while since we've heard anything from the "Green Hornet" camp -- after a barrage of news this past September in which Stephen Chow was announced as a co-director as well as landing the part of Kato, Michael Peña saying he'd been offered a "secret role" in the project, and co-director/writer/star Seth Rogen offering hints as to the direction of the film's storyline -- reports surrounding the film based on the classic comic/pulp superhero have been all but silent.
Luckily, for those of you out there looking for a status report, Sci Fi Wire's got you covered. In an exclusive talk with Rogen, the Hollywood Jack-of-all-Trades offers a quick update on the production, as well as his goal of having a clip ready in time for 2009's San Diego Comic Con.
"Comic-Con is my favorite event of the year," Rogen said in the Sci Fi Wire piece. "It's more fun to me than the movie premieres, than anything. I love Comic-Con. All of our friends come down for it, and we just have a really good time, and it's always a lot of fun. I would love nothing more than to be able to show something at Comic-Con."
The only problem with that plan is, according to Rogen, filming hasn't even commenced yet for "Green Hornet" (the current plan is to begin filming in May of '09) and to add to that, he's still working out communication problems with Chow.
"[Chow]'s given us a lot of ideas," said Rogen. "His English is...well, we keep saying when we all come out of this, we will be great communicators. He's made great strides, I will say. It presents its own challenges at times. We get along really, really well. We are really just starting the process, very little has actually been done. We're actually in the very preliminary stages right now."
"Green Hornet" is set to hit theaters in 2010 through Sony Pictures.
What do you think of Seth Rogen's "Green Hornet" from what you've heard so far? Do you think a superhero movie with a hint of comedy will work in these "Dark Knight" days? Sound off below.
