Here at Splash Page, our motto is: "When Comics and Movies Collide, We Pick Up the Pieces." So, while it's certainly not the stuff of casting rumors (though it would be great if it was), the story of a recent encounter between the creative team for the "Adventures of Dr. McNinja" webcomic and actor Bill Murray seemed like it was just begging for a call-out here on the site.
"I went to go outside for better reception ... [and] on the way out, I walked past Bill Murray," wrote "McNinja" creator Chris Hastings of a recent night out for karaoke in which Hastings his fiancee and "McNinja" colorist Carly Monardo, as well as the rest of their crew happened to connect with the actor for a few songs -- and a few short videos. (I've posted one of the videos after the jump.)
"[I] immediately thought of an article which I had read earlier in the day, [titled] 'Bill Murray Will Crash Your Party,'" continued Hastings. "Well hell, why not our party? I'm famous on the internet, I talk to who I want. I walked back in, and Bill was standing by himself, and I approached him. I said, 'Excuse me. My friends have a room back there, and if you'd like, you could join us.' And he did."
While Hastings wrote that they had kept the photos and video to a minimum in order to avoid the "Hey Bill, will you sing 'Ghostbusters' with me, also every time you touch the mic, we are all going to point our cameras at you" effect, he did manage to get a photo of himself with Murray (which is now posted on his blog) -- as well as some video featuring the actor both listening to, and participating in, the singing.
"Anyway, we all had a good time. Bill slapped me on the back after I sang 'Phantom of the Opera' and said he found it very funny, and I think it was after that that he loosened up and joined in with everyone," wrote Hastings. "He bought us all a round of Chartreuse, and a few hours of singing and yelling later, we parted ways. It was an awesome evening."
It certainly sounds that way.
