While we normally shy away from the world of of fan-created trailers and short films -- they can't all be "Batman: Dead End," after all -- this one was too good to ignore. YouTube user WormyT has created a full-on trailer for a live-action "Thundercats" movie (based on the popular 1980s cartoon series) by compiling scenes from various films featuring, among others, Brad Pitt, Hugh Jackman and Vin Diesel. After applying what can only be significant amounts of Adobe editing magic, the results speak for themselves:
UPDATE: 1/5/09 - Check out what original Lion-O voice actor Larry Kenney told MTV about about the "ThunderCats" trailer in an exclusive interview!
So... we caught the "Troy," "X-Men" and "Chronicles of Riddick" clips, but was that a little "Lord of the Rings," "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," "Blade Runner" and "Spy Kids" we saw in there, too? (And a bit of "Garfield" bringing Snarf to life?) WormyT, your geek cred is secure.
While "Thundercats" didn't originate in the comics scene (though it did spawn a Marvel Comics series in the '80s and a DC/Wildstorm series in 2003), we consider it our solemn duty here at Splash Page to give a nod to stand-out projects bringing stories and characters from the illustrated world to life. And this "Thundercats" trailer certainly accomplished that -- in a big way.
Heck, it made us believe a live-action "Thundercats" movie might actually be a good idea!
What do you think about WormyT's fan-made "Thundercats" trailer? Think a "Thundercats" movie would work?
