“Push,” a superpower-savvy thriller starring Dakota Fanning, Camilla Belle and Chris Evans, hits theaters next month and features a wide array of characters with powers any comic book fan will appreciate. Whether it’s the ability to move objects using their mind, change the shape of things they touch or even emit powerful sonic screams that can break glass and incapacitate (or kill) their targets, the cast of characters in “Push” can do things that would give the X-Men a run for their mutant money.
Last month, I spoke with “Push” director Paul McGuigan about how he approached the film’s culled-from-comics premise, and while he hinted at many of the characters’ abilities on display in the film, a new catalog of all the film’s prominent powers has hit the ‘Net. SuperheroHype has the full, flash-driven “Power Classifications” chart that not only includes brief descriptions of the powers, but also identifies which characters possess each ability.
Along with providing a nice bit of background story for the character played by Evans, the chart also offers up some clues about how the various characters are connected. It also features an action shot of one of my favorite abilities in the film: the ear-popping sonic attack of the “Bleeders.”
After looking over the chart, I found it interesting that certain abilities from the comic book tie-in for “Push” didn’t seem to make the cut for the big-screen story. The film chart references “Pushers,” “Watchers,” “Stitchers” and various other types of abilities, but doesn’t mention one of the prominent powers in the comic — the Kitty Pryde-esque abilities of “Phasers.”
“Push” hits theaters February 6. Issue #4 of the “Push” prequel comic hits shelves this month.
What do you think about the powers in “Push”? Any thoughts on why certain powers might not make the move from print to live-action stories? Sound off in the comment section!
