The accolades continue to pour in for "The Dark Knight" as it leads the charge for comic book film legitimacy. The record-breaking film received a nomination for Best Picture by The Producers Guild of America as part of their annual Producers Guild Awards, taking place on Saturday, January 24 at the Hollywood Palladium.
While this not only adds to an already impressive list of major film awards -- which includes nods from The Screen Actors Guild, a Grammy nomination for "Best Score Soundtrack Album" and a posthumous Golden Globe nomination for Heath Ledger for Best Supporting Actor -- it also continues to crank up anticipation for the list of official nominees for this year's Academy Awards (set to be announced on January 22), which is beginning to look quite favorably for director Christopher Nolan's take on Gotham City's favorite vigilante.
However, "The Dark Knight" will face stiff competition at the Producers Guild Awards for Best Picture -- squaring off against such buzz-heavy films as "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," "Frost/Nixon," "Milk" and "Slumdog Millionaire."
Next on the list of possible award recognition is the Writers Guild of America, who will announce their choices for awards on Wednesday, January 7. That said, keep it locked to Splash Page for the latest as we enter the thick of awards season.
So what do you think, readers -- will "The Dark Knight" get an Oscar nod or two? Or do you think The Establishment will ignore it? Let's hear some chatter in the comments!
