New ‘Judge Dredd’ Movie Concept Art By Jock Hits The ‘Net

Last month, we told you that “Judge Dredd” is headed back to the big screen, with the producers of “28 Weeks Later” bringing the popular British comic book character back to theaters. While we’re cautiously optimistic about the news (given the disappointment of 1995’s “Judge Dredd” adaptation), there was reason for joy in Mega City 1 today with the online debut of some new concept art for the film from one of our favorite artist in the biz, Jock.

While one of the images first hit the ‘Net on Standard Attrition, a group blog for creators publishing work within DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint, the sci-fi savvy crew at io9 has assembled a gallery of several more pieces of “Judge Dredd” art. Here’s one of our favorites (and you can head over to io9 for the rest of the images):

While Jock is probably best known for his work with writer Andy Diggle on the destined-for-film series “The Losers” (though we also loved his art on “Faker” with Mike Carey), he’s no stranger to both the Judge Dredd character and providing concept art for television and film.

After kicking off his career in the long-running British anthology series “2000 A.D.,” Jock has continued to contribute to the series — particularly on stories involving Dredd. He also provided concept art for Christina Aguilera’s Catwoman-inspired romp in the “Keeps Gettin’ Better” video. (We posted some of Jock’s concept art for the Aguilera video back in November.)
