With all of the hype surrounding the latest "Iron Man 2” casting and villain rumors, it's easy to forget that there's another, highly-anticipated Marvel franchise that's in the process of picking new villains and actors, too -- that, of course, being "Spider-Man 4."
The last time "Spider-Man" director Sam Raimi talked about the project was way back in October of '08, when the fanboy-acclaimed director said he hoped to shoot two "Spider-Man" flicks back-to-back and wanted The Lizard as a villain.
However, in a recent Empire magazine story, Raimi indicates that The Lizard might be taking a backseat as Raimi considers returning to his horror film roots in the next installment of the "Spider-Man" film franchise.
"I like it in the Marvel comics when Spider-Man fights Morbius," said Raimi. "He's really cool. A vampire! I like that combination of superhero plus supernatural."
While that's not a confirmation that Marvel's living vampire will be the heavy in the next "Spider-Man" film, it is a rather...interesting choice should Raimi proceed with that line of thinking.
Dr. Michael Morbius -- a Spidey mainstay since the early 1970s -- was a man who, through scientific experiments with vampire bats, gains the powers of a vampire. As other websites have already mentioned, Morbius' origin mirrors that of The Lizard's, leaving open speculation that the two could be causing headaches for Spider-Man in the next film.
What do you think, readers? Would you like to see Morbius as the next villain in the "Spider-Man" franchise, or is there another baddie worthy of a throw-down with wall-crawler? We wanna hear your thoughts in the comments.
