It has certainly been a good week for "The Dark Knight" in terms of award recognition, having secured nominations from the Producers, Writers and Cinematographers Guilds over the past few days that only add to an impressive list that includes nominations for various awards from the Screen Actors Guild, The Golden Globes and The Grammys.
And now, "The Dark Knight" can add yet another award nomination to its overall tally, as director Christopher Nolan has been announced as a candidate for "Best Director" from the Directors Guild of America. However, while fanboys can take this news as just another step towards comic book movies being taken seriously by the establishment, we all continue to anxiously count down the days to January 22, when the official announcements for the Academy Awards are released.
Nolan faces off against a crew of A-list and buzz-worthy directors for the DGA award, including David Fincher ("The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"), Ron Howard ("Frost/Nixon"), Gus Van Sant ("Milk") and Danny Boyle ("Slumdog Millionaire"). The winner will be announced Saturday, January 31.
Do you think Nolan will walk away with this award? And with all of these nominations, do you think "The Dark Knight" has a good chance of getting some Oscar nominations? Talk about it in the comments.
