It certainly hasn't been a slow news month for "Watchmen" since we all cracked open our new 2009 calendars. In anticipation of U.S. District Court Judge Gary Feess' final decision (expected to be delivered on January 20) on whether the film will hit theaters as planned on March 6, we've heard opinions on the ongoing legal fight from current and former "Watchmen" producers, as well as "Watchmen" star Malin Ackerman. Yet, as fascinated (and anxious) as we are about this case, part of us also wishes that we had a time machine -- just so we could fast-forward to next week and get this all over with!
And, if a recent report from The Hollywood Reporter is to be believed, it looks like Fox and Warner Bros' lawyers might just wanna get this over with as well. While details are scarce, the report states that the two legal teams met over this past weekend and "got serious," in anticipation for a closed-door meeting yesterday, and may indeed be "close" to a formal agreement on the release date, which would hopefully end this legal fiasco once and for all. Neither side had any comment after the meeting.
But if that's not enough to get your hopes up that we may be seeing the end of this lawsuit that's had "Watchmen" fans glued to the Web, The New York Times' Carpetbagger blog noticed Fox Chairman Tom Rothman and Alan Horn of Warner Bros "down among the superstar seats, smiling and back-patting — each other, not the superstars — just before the show began. A public display of affection between studio chiefs, along with those pricey 'Watchmen' ads on the National Football League playoff games this weekend, would add up to a message as big as the Hollywood sign: The talks between hitherto warring Fox and Warner over a settlement of Fox’s lawsuit over rights to 'Watchmen' must be on track."

Do you think these recent developments bode well for the March 6 release date? Or do you remain skeptical? We want to hear your thoughts in the comments.
