'Harbinger'Reporting by Tami Katzoff

Despite the fact that all of comicdom will soon know him as Victor Creed (a.k.a. Wolverine's longtime sparing partner, Sabretooth) in the upcoming "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," to many of his fans out there, Liev Schreiber is better known as a classical, Tony Award-winning actor, having appeared in numerous Shakespeare productions as well as more dramatic roles. So, taking on the role of a blood-thirsty mutant brawler came as a bit of a surprise to some of his friends and family.

"I think people underestimate the level of teenage boy in me," Schreiber recently told MTV. "When everyone said they were shocked that I wanted to be a mutant in the new 'X-Men' movie, I was not surprised at all, and would do it over and over again. The only hard part is all the exercise." 'Scott Pilgrim vs. The World'And the comic book movie casting news continues to flood the 'tubes this month, as HitFix drops the exclusive scoop that Kieran Culkin has signed on to star in the upcoming "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" film, based on the acclaimed series of graphic novels by Bryan Lee O'Malley.

According to the news, Culkin will play the role of Wallace Wells, best bud and roommate of Scott Pilgrim (who will be played by Michael Cera). This comes after a months-long lull in reports from the "Scott Pilgrim" front, so the fact that casting is moving forward serves as good news for fans who are eagerly anticipating the graphic novel's jump to the silver screen. Edgar Wright ("Shaun of the Dead") is onboard to direct "Scott Pilgrim" and has promised to honor the source material with the film. Read More...

Sam RockwellEarlier this month, we brought you word that Sam Rockwell and Mickey Rourke were in talks to appear in "Iron Man 2" -- possibly as the pair of villains Justin Hammer and the Crimson Dynamo. Now, Rockwell is ready to talk about his confirmed turn toward super-villainy and expressed excitement in an exclusive interview with MTV News.

According to Rockwell, "Iron Man" director Jon Favreau originally considered casting him for the role of Tony Stark in the first film, but he's now on board to appear as Justin Hammer, a staunch corporate rival for Stark, in “Iron Man 2.”

"We had a phone conversation about it, and then I didn’t hear anything and that was it," Rockwell told MTV of early conversations regarding the part that eventually went to Robert Downey Jr. One blockbuster film later, the phone conversation was accompanied by an offer to play Hammer, and Rockwell accepted. Emily BluntIn terms of "Iron Man 2" casting rumors, this month has been as crazy as one of Tony Stark's comics-infamous benders! Between reports that Mickey Rourke and Sam Rockwell could have roles in "Iron Man 2", coupled with yesterday's news that Samuel L. Jackson might not return as Nick Fury, there's been no shortage of news to keep fans of ol' Shellhead glued to the interwebs waiting for the latest reports.

Variety has more casting rumors today, and it seems that those rumors a few weeks back about Black Widow joining in on the "Iron Man 2" action were true, as Emily Blunt is now rumored to be the front runner for the role. Read More...

Zack SnyderWay back when the cast of "Watchmen" was initially announced, fans across the board were asking the same question, "who are the Watchmen?" Not in the sense that the book asks (that being, "Who watches The Watchmen?"), but more along the lines that, with very few exceptions, most of the actors cast were relative unknowns.

MTV caught up with "Watchmen" director Zack Snyder and asked him about the casting process.

"It's funny, they almost kind of fell in one at a time," recalled Snyder. "Like Dr. Manhattan, we would talk about who we might consider and then we were like, 'Oh, I wonder if Billy [Crudup] would be interested in something like this?" Then we put it out to him and he comes back saying, 'Yeah, that sounds cool.' So it was almost on a character by character basis that we kind of put it together. There was no, like, 'We need this level star or we need this kind of box office appeal." Read More...

Three new photos hit the 'Net today from "Kick-Ass," the live-action adaptation of Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.'s edgy real-life superhero series.

The trio of photos are available on HitFix, but one of our favorites from the bunch is this shot of Nicolas Cage and Chloe Moretz (our first "official" look at Cage and Moretz, in fact) looking like your average father and daughter having a cup of hot chocolate together -- against a backdrop of machine guns!

After the jump, check out a close-up photo of Aaron Johnson in his Kick-Ass costume, and some thoughts about the new photos. Read More...

'Watchmen'Another day, another piece of news involving the legal battle over the "Watchmen" movie. Today, The Hollywood Reporter has word that the court hearing scheduled for next Tuesday, January 20th has been canceled, fueling speculation that a settlement has been reached.

Just a day ago, we had word that Warner Bros. was meeting with Fox in an attempt to hammer out the no-doubt complicated settlement that would allow Warner to release "Watchmen" on its scheduled date of March 6. While full details of a settlement are, even when officially announced, probably going to be kept mum, rumor has it that Fox is expected to take in tens of millions of dollars and may very well wind up with their logo attached to prints worldwide. All is still quiet on the release of any official video game tied to “The Dark Knight.” The caped crusader seems to have skipped straight to “LEGO Batman” and “Arkham Asylum,” leaving “Dark Knight” orphaned as the loan modern Batman film without a game on one of the major consoles.

However, one talented fan funneled his restlessness into this snazzy trailer of what an NES-era “Dark Knight” game might look like.

YouTube user elmacbee probably had the right idea channeling Sunsoft as the faux game’s look. Anyone who played their original “Batman,” “Return of the Joker” or “Gremlins 2: The New Batch” should be able to appreciate the 8-bit cinematographer’s tricks here. Read More...
