Cate BlanchettFROM MOVIES BLOG: Imagine that you’re an actress not even forty years old, and you’ve already been nominated for the Oscar four times, won it once, and worked alongside everyone from Steven Spielberg to Leonardo DiCaprio to Peter Jackson and many others. Where does Cate Blanchett go from here?

Naturally, she finds increasingly difficult material to make into movies, then does her best to help steer it to the screen. And her current pet project is “Cancer Vixen: A True Story,” Marisa Acocella Marchetto’s humorously serious depiction of how the C-word knocked her out of her Carrie Bradshaw fantasy and into reality.

“Yes, it’s a comic novel, which I’m hoping will come up,” enthused Blanchett, who hopes to someday play the part of Marchetto in a feature film based on her graphic novel. “It’s a really unique book.”

'Samuel L. Jackson'If you're a card-carrying Marvel Zombie, 2009 has been a very good year for you so far. Between the hype surrounding "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and the latest "Iron Man 2" casting news, it's beginning to look like yet another mighty year for the "House of Ideas."

Of course, we could be speaking too soon here, as the L.A. Times' Hero Complex has broke the news that negotiations between Samuel L. Jackson and Marvel Studios (for Jackson to reprise his role as Nick Fury in Marvel's upcoming slate of films) have reportedly come to a halt, with Jackson going so far as saying, "There was a huge kind of negotiation that broke down. I don't know. Maybe I won't be Nick Fury. Maybe somebody else will be Nick Fury or maybe Nick Fury won't be in it. There seems to be an economic crisis in the Marvel Comics world so [they're saying to me], 'We're not making that deal.'" Read More...

We've been looking forward to Marvel's upcoming animated feature "Hulk Vs." for quite a while now, but this week we received some new clips that should keep it fresh on our minds until it hits shelves on DVD and Blu-Ray later this month.

As we mentioned back when we debuted the "Hulk vs. Thor" trailer, "Hulk Vs." will include two individual stories pitting Marvel's gamma-powered behemoth against the publisher's favorite Norse God, Thor, as well as the ol' Canucklehead himself, Wolverine. What happens when "Smash" meets "Snikt"? Check out the clip below to find out:

After the jump, check out a clip from Hulk's battle with Thor, too. Read More...

Captain MarvelDC's Captain Marvel has the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules and various other attributes that provide an acronym for "SHAZAM!" (the word that transforms Billy Batson into Captain Marvel) -- but what about his ability to make a move to the big screen? After the on-again, off-again project seemed to fall back into limbo last week when screenwriter John August said the Captain Marvel/Shazam film "won't be happening," the film's producer Michael Uslan told MTV News that fans shouldn't abandon hope of seeing the hero in theaters.

"I will only say one thing -- and all I will do is quote Samuel Clemens to you," hinted Uslan. "This is direct from Captain Marvel himself: 'The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated.'" Read More...

Back in October, the 'Net leaped out of its seat and shouted "Hallelujah!" over the news that Vertigo's groundbreaking series "Preacher" had broken out of development hell and a "Preacher" movie was on its way to the silver screen after Columbia had obtained the rights to the franchise (with Sam Mendes pegged to direct). Heck, we were so excited over the news that we even threw together a "Preacher" casting call!

However, we later discovered that the news of Mendes' attachment to "Preacher" was a bit premature. So, when MTV happened to catch the Oscar-winning director on the red carpet at The Golden Globes, we had to check in and see there had been any movement since the news first broke.

As you can see in the video above, while Mendes tells us that he's still waiting on a script before he decides to officially sign on, he clearly seems to be interested in taking on the "brilliant" adaptation despite its potential for "danger." Read More...

'The Dark Knight'FROM MTV.COM: Heath Ledger emerged victorious Sunday night at the Golden Globes, winning for his portrayal of the Joker in "The Dark Knight." While director Christopher Nolan accepted the award on the late actor's behalf, Ledger's daughter, Matilda Rose, will end up with the Globe, according to Ledger's mother.

Actually, Sally Bell told People.com that Matilda will get all of her father's posthumous awards.

"I should imagine that eventually it will be going to Matilda," Bell said in an interview from her home in Perth, Australia. "At this stage, she is only so young, but down the track, she will have all these things. It will belong to her, because she is part of him."

'Watchmen'It certainly hasn't been a slow news month for "Watchmen" since we all cracked open our new 2009 calendars. In anticipation of U.S. District Court Judge Gary Feess' final decision (expected to be delivered on January 20) on whether the film will hit theaters as planned on March 6, we've heard opinions on the ongoing legal fight from current and former "Watchmen" producers, as well as "Watchmen" star Malin Ackerman. Yet, as fascinated (and anxious) as we are about this case, part of us also wishes that we had a time machine -- just so we could fast-forward to next week and get this all over with!

And, if a recent report from The Hollywood Reporter is to be believed, it looks like Fox and Warner Bros' lawyers might just wanna get this over with as well. While details are scarce, the report states that the two legal teams met over this past weekend and "got serious," in anticipation for a closed-door meeting yesterday, and may indeed be "close" to a formal agreement on the release date, which would hopefully end this legal fiasco once and for all. Neither side had any comment after the meeting. Read More...

Sure, Mickey Rourke is back in the spotlight thanks to an award-winning role in Darren Aronofsky's "The Wrestler," but does that mean we're more or less likely to see him in "Iron Man 2"? The 'Net was buzzing last week when it was announced that Rourke and Sam Rockwell were in talks to play villains in the "Iron Man" sequel -- prompting us to examine likely "Iron Man 2" storylines and characters based on the rumored characters -- but when we had a chance to ask Rourke about his involvement, he offered up some quick thoughts about a potential role in the film.

Regarding "Iron Man 2," Rourke said he'd bring "everything I can bring" to a role in the eagerly anticipated film. Read More...
