The countdown to MTV's big reveal of the GREATEST BADASS IN MOVIE HISTORY continues, with one more character added to the list of contenders today and a special guest list from filmmaker James Gunn.

Yesterday, we directed you to Top 10 badass lists compiled by two of MTV's most movie-savvy mainstays, MTV News' Kurt Loder and Larry Carroll. Today, we have a list from one of the folks making movie magic on the regular, 2004's "Dawn of the Dead" screenwriter and "Slither" writer/director James Gunn -- so now you can find out exactly what's more "bad-ass" than fast zombies and alien slugs. Oh, and even though we're pretty sure there's no need to explain why Clint Eastwood's character "Dirty" Harry Callahan makes the list of greatest movie badasses (on the heels of Boba Fett and Ellen Ripley), we've created the following montage of his particular form of badassery:

Who will reign supreme as the Greatest Badass of All Time? Find out on February 6 at 7:15 p.m. when MTV announces the winner live at New York’s Comic-Con and right here at MTV.com.

'Dead of Night'A trio of Platinum Studios properties headed for theaters -- including "Dead of Night," "Cowboys and Aliens" and "Atlantis Rising" -- are set to begin filming in 2009, according to a recent investor newsletter.

In the text of a letter posted to InvestorsHub, Platinum President and COO Brian Altounian tells investors that "Dead of Night," the movie based on Italian horror comic "Dylan Dog" and set to star "Superman Returns" actor Brandon Routh, will likely begin principal photography in New Orleans next month. According to Altounian, the film remains on track for a Spring 2010 release despite the "many starts and stops" the project has experienced.

Altounian also provided an update of sorts for two other theater-bound Platinum properties that have made headlines in recent months: "Cowboys and Aliens" (set to be adapted by "Iron Man" writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, with Robert Downey Jr. attached to star) and "Atlantis Rising." Over the last month or so, we’ve heard from various members of the cast and crew for DC's "Wonder Woman" animated film, including Vicki Lewis (who will voice Persephone), producer Bruce Timm and "Wonder Woman" screenwriter Michael Jelenic.

Now, fan-favorite "Firefly" actor Nathan Fillion has spoken up about his role as Steve Trevor in the direct-to-dvd film, pairing him up once again with his “Waitress” co-star Keri Russell.

'Wonder Woman'

“Playing second fiddle to Keri, that's a wonderful fiddle to play. I've done it before, I'll do it again,” said Fillion. "As for her strengths as Wonder Woman, well, first of all, she has a jet. It’s not invisible, but it’s close. And she does wear a tiara. Not all the time--you’re not going to see her walking down the street in it. But she’s got it. And it looks good. She wears it well.” Read More...

'Wanted: Weapons of Fate'FROM MULTIPLAYER BLOG: Some rather fiendish combat and a lot of slow-motion bullet-fire failed to ruin my second hands-on demo of March’s “Wanted: Weapons of Fate” game, even if the game’s producer was certain I’d be too squeamish. Wary of my reaction, he began my hands-on time with the game in a most unusual way…

“I should have brought you the German version,” Pete Wanat, producer of the upcoming game “Wanted: Weapons of Fate” said as he greeted me last week for a demo of his game. German versions of games tend to be tamer than their global counterparts due to that country’s content restrictions. Wanat was joking. Sort of.

Dr. ManhattanNow that the pesky legal fiasco is over with, fans eagerly anticipating the March 6 release of Zack Snyder's take on "Watchmen" can focus on the real important issues of the adaptation, and how the director managed to take a seemingly unfilmable graphic novel to the big screen. From a fan's perspective, one would assume that one of the biggest challenges in bringing "Watchmen" to life would be how to handle Dr. Manhattan (played by Billy Crudup), a god-like hero who spends a good chunk of the book naked, unabashedly showing off...umm...Lil' Dr. Manhattan throughout.

In an exclusive sit-down with MTV, Snyder confirms that Dr. Manhattan's nudity -- unlike the film's ending -- will not be altered or toned down. "It's an R rated movie, right?" said Snyder. "What you see in the trailer has to be a little bit squished around so it can get on TV. I think in the final film you'll see it's true to the graphic novel. He's naked." Read More...

It's definitely been a fantastic week so far for novelist and comic book icon Neil Gaiman. On Monday, Gaiman was awarded the esteemed John Newbery Medal by the American Library Association -- one of the highest achievements that can be given for childrens literature -- for his novel, "The Graveyard Book." And yesterday, on the book's feature film adaptation front, Gaiman was able to announce that screenwriter/director Neil Jordan ("The Brave One") will be bringing his talents to the project.

Check out the clip below, as Gaiman excitedly breaks the news to Al Roker on yesterday's "Today" show.

For you Gaiman fans out there, this isn't the first we've heard from Gaiman regarding a "Graveyard Book" film, as the writer broke the news of the "Graveyard Book" adaptation to MTV back in October. And in a clever marketing twist, the writer will also put his brand on a series of "Graveyard Book" themed perfumes.

Let's hear from you Neil Gaiman fans out there -- are you excited to hear the latest developments on "The Graveyard Book" adaptation? We wanna hear from you in the comments.

'Kick-Ass'When we recently listed our most anticipated comic-based movies of 2009, there was little doubt that we had to save a spot for the next flick from the mind of “Wanted” creator Mark Millar: the everyday hero story "Kick-Ass." And after getting a recent look at the "Kick-Ass" cast -- which includes the unusual teaming of Nicolas Cage and “Superbad” super-geek Christopher Mintz-Plasse, we have a feeling that when this flick comes out later this year, we’ll be McLovin’ it.

So naturally, when we recently caught up with Mintz-Plasse, we had to ask him whether “Kick Ass” will, well … do exactly that.

“I hope so,” the 19-year-old actor told MTV. “That’s all I can say is that I hope it will kick-ass. I don’t personally kick-ass in it, but other people kick-ass in it, and the movie will be kick-ass.” Read More...

Who is the greatest movie badass of all time? That's the question MTV has been asking accomplished actors, filmmakers, and readers of Movies Blog and Splash Page, and we're happy to announce that the final results are in!

We'll reveal the baddest of the badasses on February 6 at 7:15 PM (EST), when MTV announces the winner live at New York Comic Con and here on MTV.com. Until then, however, MTV is revealing each of the 10 finalists for the "Greatest Badass" mantle -- one per day and in alphabetical order. So far, we've honored the extensive badassery of "Star Wars" bounty hunter Boba Fett and "Alien" fighter Ellen Ripley, while notable MTV Movies mainstays Kurt Loder and Larry Carroll each provided their lists of the film world's greatest tough guys (and gals).

And just in case you needed a reminder why why Boba Fett made the cut, here's a montage we created of some of his greatest hits (minus the dip into the Sarlacc pit, of course):

It's always a good time to watch Boba Fett in action, isn't it? Keep it locked to MTV.com every day leading up to the big reveal on Friday, Feb. 6 to find out more of the contenders for the title of GREATEST BADASS IN MOVIE HISTORY!

'Astro Boy'The past 24 hours has been looking pretty rough for Imagi Entertainment’s adaptation of popular anime/manga “Astro Boy,” from Scarlett Johansson denying involvement, to the studio's potentially disastrous financial problems reported yesterday. However, Imagi Entertainment U.S. President Erin Corbett recently spoke up to address all of the questions surrounding "Astro Boy" and the studio.

Corbett told sci-fi blog io9 that they had to shut down the U.S. office for a week because of a lack of “bridge financing” the company was expecting that never went through. Now that the money has come through, however, all systems are "go" for the feature based on Osamu Tezuka's robot boy.

“We had this money secured in the late fall,” said Corbett. “We had bridge money to take us through February, when we knew that bridge money was not going to [materialize]... we could not have people come in and not be sure [we'd be able to pay them.]” Read More...

'Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe'FROM MULTIPLAYER: Midway announced today they’ve shipped 1.8 million copies of “Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe” and said work on the next, most likely M-rated “Mortal Kombat” has already started. Series co-creator Ed Boon told us a little bit about the new title at last summer’s Comic Con (we never reported it). Here’s what he said.

Comic book characters are not the future of the “Mortal Kombat” franchise, series co-creator Ed Boon told me last summer at Comic Con in San Diego. Eventually, “Mortal Kombat” would return to its M-rated, violent roots.

For more on the future of "Mortal Kombat" (and whether it includes comics), head over to MultiplayerBlog.MTV.com.
