'Astro Boy'These days, in order to make a good comic book flick, it seems like part of the recipe for success needs to be a some behind-the-scenes drama. After all, most of this year's highly-anticipated comic book movies -- from "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" to "Watchmen" -- have all had their share of shenanigans leading up to their respective releases.

And now it looks as though "Astro Boy," the CGI feature film based on Osamu Tezuka's most famous creation, is joining that infamous list of problematic productions. According to a post on FirstShowing.net, the animation studio behind "Astro Boy," Imagi International, is quickly running out of money and may be shutting down operations indefinitely, with their unnamed source adding that employees were recently told not to show up to the office at the start of the work week. J. Michael StraczynskiPopular comics, movie and television writer J. Michael Straczynski will not be attending next weekend's New York Comic Con for the first time in its four-year history, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing for fans of the former "Amazing Spider-Man" writer and "Babylon 5" creator.

Stracyznski’s script for the Clint Eastwood-helmed, Angelina Jolie period movie “Changeling” has been nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards, and the author announced today that he'll have to pass up an appearance at the New York show in order to attend that awards ceremony.

"I never in a million years imagined that I might be nominated for a British Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Changeling," explained Straczynski in a statement released today. "It simply was never on my radar screen." Read More...

'The Dark Knight'With the exception of a few film buffs among us, who would've ever guessed that awards season would be of any interest to us geeks? Well, considering the fact that one of our own -- "The Dark Knight" -- seems to be up for every single award available, its kind of hard to ignore.

Last night, 2008's box office titan took home two more coveted statuettes, this time at the 15th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, held at the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Center. Read More...

'The Green Hornet'It sounds like it may be the beginning of a death-knell for "The Green Hornet." Over at Hitfix, Drew McWeeny has word that Sony may be backing out the project completely.

Rumors of a "Green Hornet" movie have been around for years and years, ever since Kevin Smith was attached to the project as a writer and director. When Smith left the film, it seemed dead in the water, but then the rather unexpected casting news broke that placed Seth Rogen in the lead as the masked hero. Read More...

'The Dark Knight'Well, another week is over and it's time to reminisce on all the great times we shared over the last 5-6 days, folks. We laughed, we cried, and we even went back in time for a little while. Here's a quick recap of what went down:

- The Academy Awards didn't think enough of "The Dark Knight" to nominate it for "Best Picture," but Heath Ledger received his well-deserved nomination. Meanwhile, we collected some thoughts on "The Dark Knight" from filmmakers who certainly put it high on their lists.

- While Sam Rockwell looked ahead to "Iron Man 2" homework, MTV brought you the news that Billy Bob Thornton was almost the man in the "Iron Man" mask!

- J. Jonah Jameson himself (or rather the actor who portrayed him, J.K. Simmons) told MTV that filming for "Spider-Man 4" would begin in 2010.

- There was all sorts of new stuff hitting the 'Net for the comics-friendly thriller "Push," including three exclusive new images from "Push" that debuted on Splash Page, a new "Push" TV trailer, a new clip from the film, and finally, our interview with the film's director about casting teenage actress Dakota Fanning.

- "The Shadow" producer Michael Uslan teased some very intriguing details about the upcoming film.

- Finally, "Batman Begins" villain Liam Neeson told us Christopher Nolan had his number if he ever wanted to bring back the immortal Ra's Al Ghul.

That's it for now, readers, but have faith...our paths will cross again next week!

"Dragonball Evolution" is scheduled to hit theaters later this year, so when MTV News caught up with Emmy Rossum during the Sundance Film Festival (her new film, "Dare," debuted during the event), we had to ask her a few questions about her role in the live-action adaptation of the anime/manga classic.

"She honestly believes that she's smarter and can do everything better than everyone else...which means we have a lot in common," laughed Rossum about her character, Bulma. Read More...

'Push'In yesterday's post that included a trio of exclusive images from "Push," we showed you a scene in which Nick Gant (played by Chris Evans) faces off against Victor Budarin (Neil Jackson) in a powered-up brawl that pits the two "movers" -- people with the ability to move objects using their minds -- against one another in a room filled with scaffolding. Well, now you can see the whole scene in live-action form, thanks to a new clip from "Push" that debuted today on Apple's movie site.

In "Push," Evans plays a renegade "mover" who, after encountering a runaway "watcher" (able to see glimpses of the future) played by Dakota Fanning, becomes embroiled in a plot that could change the status quo of their superpower-filled world. Camilla Belle and Djimon Hounsou also star in the film. Read More...

'Coraline'In case our snazzy new background wasn't enough of a clue, we're pretty jazzed about the February 6 release of "Coraline" -- the 3-D, stop-motion animated feature from the dream collaboration of critically-acclaimed comic book writer and novelist Neil Gaiman, and director Henry Selick (a.k.a. the genius behind "The Nightmare Before Christmas).

So naturally, when we saw that Borders Backlot is currently hosting an exclusive video featuring Gaiman -- as well as some brand new animation clips -- our browsers couldn't load fast enough. You'll have to visit their site to check it out -- but fair warning to any "Koumpounophobes" (that is, people with an extreme fear of buttons), you might wanna skip this one. Read More...

'Watchmen'Short of a certain comic book icon threatening to "spit venom" all over the film, you'll be hard pressed to find anyone out there who isn't excited about the March 6 release of "Watchmen." And a major part of that excitement has to do with the Warner Bros. hype machine, offering us fans ridiculously cool viral videos and websites that give us a glimpse into what we can expect from Zack Snyder's take on the revolutionary graphic novel.

And the fine folks at Warner Bros. ain't letting up anytime soon, as today, they've announced the details on both the "Music From The Motion Picture 'Watchmen'" (which My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way recently spoke to MTV about contributing to) and the "'Watchmen' Original Motion Picture Score" soundtracks, as well as info for the upcoming "'Watchmen': The Complete Motion Comic" DVD and Blu-ray box sets. After the jump, we've got the rundown on all of this for those of you looking forward to watching -- and listening -- to the Watchmen. Read More...

When it comes to casting movies based on the comics world, it's always interesting to play the "What If?" game when we hear about actors who were almost chosen to play certain roles. For example, what if Harrison Ford had indeed become Superman? What if Sam Rockwell had landed the Tony Stark gig in the first "Iron Man" (instead of playing the villainous Justin Hammer in "Iron Man 2")? What if Mark Ruffalo was offered the part of Harvey Dent in "The Dark Knight"?

Now you can add this one to the list of almost-casting points to ponder, folks: What if Billy Bob Thornton played Tony Stark?

"They talked to me about Iron Man for just a minute -- just for a minute," Thornton told MTV News. Read More...
