'Torso'Just last month, we had word that Paramount's rights to "Torso", the 1998 Image miniseries by Brian Michael Bendis, were dangerously close to expiration. Now, The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Paramount has indeed let the rights lapse, bringing the film's future into serious question.

"Torso," the story of Elliot Ness' investigation into the real-life 1930s Cleveland Torso Murderer, was set to be adapted by David Fincher as a film potentially titled "Ness." Though there are persistent rumors about Fincher being difficult to work with, the financial and critical success of "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" seemed an excuse to give the man carte blanche. Especially odd is this news breaking the same day that "Button" walked off with 13 Oscar nominations. Read more...

'Deadpool'After several months of news regarding the "Watchmen" lawsuit and the current rumors about "Iron Man 2" casting issues, it was totally understandable to be a bit...concerned...when news broke earlier this week regarding "extensive" reshoots for "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" (especially considering the film's own history of behind-the-scenes conflicts). However, might those reshoots be serving to make the film -- dare we say -- even more badass?

That seems to be the rumor that IESB.com is reporting today, claiming that the reshoots currently taking place in Vancouver were to add more of Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool to the film. The article further hints that -- since the reshoots mostly involved Deadpool and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) -- that Marvel's resident "Merc with a Mouth" stands to be a major character in the upcoming "X-Men" spin-off. 'The Dark Knight'FROM MTV.COM: This year's Academy Awards nominations were announced on Thursday (January 22), and while Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight" received nods in eight categories (including the Best Supporting Actor nomination for the late Heath Ledger), the record-breaking film failed to receive a nod for Best Picture.

On its way to becoming the second-highest-grossing film of all time (behind 1997's Best Picture winner, "Titanic"), "The Dark Knight" has been the focus of no small amount of praise from actors and filmmakers — with many of those complimentary words aimed at the late Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker. Here are some words of praise for the movie we've gathered since its release:

Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman: "As a kid, I was a big comic book collector. What [Nolan]'s doing is taking it to a whole other exciting great place."

Heath LedgerFROM MTV.COM: On Thursday, while comic book fans (and movie fans in general) across the globe celebrated Heath Ledger's inevitable — and well-deserved — Best Supporting Actor nomination for "The Dark Knight," January 22 also holds a more somber place in film history.

One year before, to the day, news broke that Heath Ledger had tragically died of what would later be deemed as an accidental prescription-drug overdose.

Usually — unless you're a hard-core film buff — Academy Awards season means nothing except anticipation for outrageous red-carpet fashions or office pools featuring films that most of us haven't even seen yet. But this year's announcements had even casual moviegoers glued to TV sets and Internet streams, waiting to hear Ledger's name called for a role that the actor clearly gave his all to.

'Coraline'Director Henry Selick has ample experience adapting lustrous visions to film, whether it's Tim Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas" or Roald Dahl's "James and the Giant Peach." However, his latest challenge -- to adapt popular comics writer Neil Gaiman's children's book "Coraline" as 3D, stop-motion feature -- required him to relearn his process and develop a new way of working.

"I met Neil and got the pages -- it wasn't even a published book yet -- and I saw it as a movie immediately," Selick told MTV News. "Now, getting here from there - that's been a wild ride."

When Selick and Gaiman began collaborating on a screenplay for "Coraline," the story of a young girl who finds a doorway to a world with an alternate version of her own family that seems perfect at first but grows more sinister, communication occurred regularly -- but as Selick learned, that didn't produce the most desirable results.
