'Highlander Origins: The Kurgan' #1When we asked comic writer Brandon Jerwa how he prepared to write comics based on the sci-fi classic “Highlander,” his response came in the form of a Freddie Mercury-worthy howl.

“HEEEEERE WE AAAARE! BOOORN TO BE KINGS! WE’RE THE PRINCES OF THE UUUUUNIVERRRRSE!” cried Jerwa.

“Listen, you can’t write Highlander without some Queen blasting in the background. It should be a law. I mean, come on -- is there a better combination of movie and music?" joked Jerwa. "The answer is ‘no,’ and I’m going to have to kick your ass just because you took a half-second to think about it.” Read More...

Tobey MaguireFROM NEWSROOM BLOG: The Hollywood studio system couldn’t make it happen, but President-elect Barack Obama pulled off a bit of movie-worthy magic today. No, he didn’t make the country’s trillions of dollars in debt disappear via high-tech FX overnight before he even moves into the White House; he brought Superman and Spider-Man together in the same room to fight for the good of the nation.

OK, so maybe it was actually actors Tobey Maguire and Brandon Routh. They were on hand at Abram Simon Elementary to perform some community service as part of the president-elect’s call to community action on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. But the momentous meeting was the kind that comic geeks salivate over.

'Human Target'January's been quite a busy month on the comics-to-movies front -- especially, it seems, on the Fox lot (for better and for worse). However, judging by today's news, it looks like Fox is also focusing on their comics-to-television wing as well.

The Hollywood Reporter breaks the news today that Fox has green-lit a pilot for "Human Target," based on the longtime DC Comics character. "Human Target" was produced by Warner Bros. TV and director McG's Wonderland Sound and Vision, and is currently being written by "Jericho" co-creator Jonathan Steinberg. The character most recently appeared in a 21-issue series under DC's Vertigo imprint. Read More...

'Watchmen'The ashes of the recently settled "Watchmen" movie lawsuit are still cooling, but Warner Bros isn't wasting any time launching a new website for the eagerly anticipated film.

The new "Watchmen" movie site features character-specific pages that collect all of the footage we've seen thus far of each of the major players in "Watchmen," and there are also a few nifty galleries, desktop images and movie-related message icons. While the site doesn't offer much in the way of new content, the narration on some of the character pages isn't anything I've heard before, so it's certainly worth checking out (especially the audio from "Rorschach's Journal"). CherWhile the rumor involving Cher being cast as Catwoman in the next installment of Christopher Nolan's Batman film franchise was always one of the more unbelievable of the bunch (although we're fond of Rachel Weisz playing the role in a "Dark Knight" sequel), it's always interesting to hear what the actors themselves have to say about all of the speculation.

During a recent appearance on the "Ellen DeGeneres Show," Cher laughed off the "Batman 3" rumor, telling DeGeneres she was "too old to be Catwoman."

"I could be Grandma Catwoman or something," she added.

You can check out video of Cher's response after the jump (it starts around the 3:00 mark). Read More...

'Scott Pilgrim'The title may be "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World," but despite the recent casting announcements, there haven't been any actual villains for the lovelorn titular character to face off against.

Well, after a series of castings for his friends, it looks like Scott Pilgrim finally has an enemy (and an annoying stalker) as Ain't It Cool News announced that Chris Evans (he of "Fantastic Four" and "Push" fame) has been cast as Lucas Lee -- a skateboarding movie star and one of the "Seven Evil Exes" Pilgrim (played by Michael Cera) must defeat in order to win the heart of Ramona V. Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). Read More...
