If there was one thing fans of geek king Joss Whedon could always count on, it's comic book tie-ins based on his TV shows. From "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" to "Serenity" to "Angel" -- if there's a show out there with Whedon's name on it, then odds are there are comics as well.
However, if you were looking forward to seeing a four-color representation to Whedon's upcoming sci-fi series, "Dollhouse," well, we wouldn't advise you to hold your breath. In a sit-down with iFMagazine.com, Whedon breaks the news that he will buck the trend of comics based on his TV shows, saying, "There won’t be [a comic]. The science fiction of this is much more science. It’s mostly actors, acting differently. It’s not something you need to see drawn.”
That being said, fans hoping to see more "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" "seasons" told in comic book form -- which your friendly neighborhood Splash Page squad previewed last month and writer Jane Espenson guest blogged about -- are in luck, as Whedon plans on continuing the series beyond the current season 8, and also notes fans can expect other comics based on his work.
"We definitely have a ['Buffy'] season nine in mind, [but right now] we’re slugging our way through eight,” Whedon told iFMagazine. “We’ve also talked about doing more 'Serenity' comics, and we’ve talked to Dark Horse about a 'Cabin in the Woods' tie-in. 'Dollhouse' is just the least visual oriented in a genre way and lends itself least to comic books.”
