The writing/directing duo behind "The Matrix" films could be headed for some familiar superhero fare, according to a big ol' rumor that just hit the 'Net. According to Ain't It Cool News, brothers Andy and Larry Wachowski might be currently deciding between two very comics-savvy projects: their much-discussed live-action "Plastic Man" movie and a reboot of the "Superman" film franchise.
AICN tipster "Ballack" has reported that frequent Wachowski collaborator James McTeigue (who directed their adaptation of Alan Moore's "V For Vendetta") told an interviewer in Berlin that the next project on the brothers' plate was originally scheduled to be the "Plastic Man" movie -- but a shakeup at the studio has delayed the film indefinitely. This development, however, has opened up a discussion with the Wachowskis to possibly helm a three-part reboot of the "Superman" film franchise.
But wait, there's more!
According to AICN's anonymous source, "Superman Returns" director Bryan Singer has declined to helm another film based on the Kryptonian superhero, opting to pursue a remake of "Logan's Run" instead.
"[The Wachowskis] are currently reviewing their options as its like being asked to take the final play in a superbowl final," wrote the tipster. "Says if they do agree, he will likely either succumb to providing second unit support on the movie or will champion the directorship of Plastic Man - He started to giggle as he stated its like a young child for the Brothers and they wont give that up easily. Says, the very thought of the brothers making a superman movie is unbelievable as they have grown up in the world of comic books and they would be ideal for the project."
We'll bring you more as this one develops, but until then, keep in mind that this is all firmly entrenched in the land o' rumors at the moment. Now, discuss!
Would you like to see the Wachowskis take on Superman? Think "Plastic Man" is the better gig for their talents? Sound off!
