'DC Universe Online'FROM MULTIPLAYER BLOG: Last week, I spoke to comics writer Marv Wolfman about his involvement in the DC Comics MMO “DC Universe Online.” (I did so after giving him grief about how he brought Optimus Prime back to life in less than stellar fashion back in the 80s — I’ll get into that later). Wolfman is a highly-regarded veteran comics writer whose most famous work is the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” mini-series that re-booted the DC Universe in the mid-80s.

Here’s what I learned about his involvement in the game and how the story is taking shape.

When I spoke to him, Wolfman hadn’t worked with the developers yet. What he had done is absorbed the high-end master-story for the game, which had been cooked up by fellow comics writer Geoff Johns. Wolfman was brought in to turn Johns’ story into actual missions.

If you haven't picked up Jim Rugg and Brian Maruca's 2004 indie series "Street Angel," you're missing out on both a great comic and, apparently, the source material for a great little film. The quirky Slave Labor Graphics series, which chronicled the adventures of a homeless, 12-year-old skateboarding martial artist defending her turf in the ghetto of Angel City against mad scientists, ninjas, time-traveling conquistadors and various other baddies, has been turned into a short film by an Australian film school.

Go ahead and feast your eyes on the wild trailer for the film:

Directed by Lucas Testro and produced by Adam Bishop, "Street Angel" looks to be a lot of fun and, if there's any justice in the world at all, someday I'll actually be able to see it. Read More...

Eliza DushkuYesterday, we lamented the lack of "Iron Man 2" movie news, but it looks like Eliza Dushku has come to the rescue. The star of Joss Whedon's "Dollhouse" television series kicked off an Internet campaign Thursday on the Howard Stern show to get her a role in “Iron Man 2” -- and not just any role. She wants to play The Black Widow.

“They’re doing 'Iron Man 2,' and I’m so perfect for the Black Widow character, that they just need to get into it,” said Dushku. “They need to understand… I just learned Russian because I had to play a Russian girl in 'Dollhouse.' Maybe we could all tell them. Lets get on a Black Widow Iron Man 2 campaign.” Read More...

SchwartzmanWe've been pretty much bombarded with "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" news over the past month -- between behind-the-scenes photos to cast updates to commentary straight from "Scott Pilgrim" creator, Brian Lee O'Malley. Not that this is a bad thing -- after all, to say we're impressed with both the direction and the all-star roster of Hollywood up-and-comers attached to the Oni Press adaptation would be putting it lightly.

However, if a post over at The Playlist is to be trusted, that aforementioned ridiculously-cool cast could get that much better, as they point to an article in Variety in which Jason Schwartzman was named as a castmember -- and quite possibly the seventh "evil ex" (namely Gideon Gordon Graves) which Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) must defeat in order to win his heart's desire, Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). As we get ever-closer to the May 1 release of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," the folks over at 20th Century Fox will no doubt be cranking up the marketing for this Spring's "SNIKT!"-fest to 11 in the coming weeks. For starters, the fellas over at SuperHeroHype.com got their paws on an exclusive photo of Victor Creed (a.k.a. Sabretooth, played by Liev Schreiber) doing what he does best -- causing all kinds of mayhem and wanton destruction. Check it out below...

'X-Men Origins: Wolverine'

And if that's not enough to get your blood pumping on a Friday morning, starting this Sunday (Feb. 15), Fox will be premiering three, 60-second "Wolverine" TV spots which will reportedly tell the dramatic origin of the film's anti-hero, and set a narrative in motion that will explain the threat faced by him and his fellow muties in the upcoming flick. Gwyneth PaltrowRemember the days when "Iron Man 2" news was popping up all over the 'Net and actors were being cast and, in some cases, dropping out of the cast faster than you could say "Pepper Potts?" Yeah, those were good times. But now it feels like those days are behind us, as we haven't heard anything new from the "Iron Man 2" crew in quite a while -- and we're not the only ones.

MTV News caught up with Gwyneth Paltrow at the red carpet premiere of her new film "Two Lovers" and asked the talented "Iron Man" actress if she's felt the same void when it comes to "Iron Man 2" news.

"They haven't even given me a script yet," Paltrow told MTV News. "They don't tell me anything. I could be, like, a costume assistant in it. I know nothing." Read More...

Last week, we brought you some new images from "Astro Boy," Summit Entertainment's CGI-animated feature based on the popular anime/manga character. Today, Summit released a few more images from "Astro Boy," and even though some of them have been seen around the 'Net already, we thought we'd post some of the lesser-publicized images here, just in case you missed one or two of 'em.

Here's one of our favorites, featuring what looks to be one of the big robo-baddies Astro Boy goes up against in the movie:

By now, you've probably seen the incredibly awkward highlights of Joaquin Phoenix's interview on "The Late Show with David Letterman" Wednesday night. If not, then by all means go watch it, then come back... I'll wait.

While I'm not qualified to say whether it was just a hazy moment or a hip-hop hoax, the Phoenix interview did bring to mind another memorable moment on Letterman's show -- and I'm not talking about Crispin Glover's air karate. Throughout the 1980s, comics fans were treated to a series of "Late Show" appearances by "American Splendor" writer Harvey Pekar, and the always entertaining, combative interviews culminated with the creator being banned from the program for much of the following decade. What did he do to deserve the ban? Check out the following clip, which was his last appearance for nearly ten years:

Now that was television, eh? Read More...
