Say what you will about the marketing juggernaut surrounding this March's ridiculously-anticipated "Watchmen" movie, they do know how to keep fans' attention! Eschewing the new-poster-per-week recipe, the folks over at Warner Bros. instead have been going to where the true fans hang out -- the Internet. And while we've been treated to an array of cool, borderline-creepy "Watchmen" websites and "Watchmen" viral clips, the latest digital offering is definitely going to be hard to top.

Sure, it might not look as slick as the upcoming "Watchmen" video game for XBox 360, PS3 and PC, but for those of us old-timers who grew up mashing buttons on the original NES, the 8-bit, "arcade"-style, side-scrolling game over at the official U.K. "Watchmen" website is scratching us right where we itch and will be our excuse for not getting any work done today. Kate Beckinsale can compete with the best female action stars today, but the brunette bombshell still had something to prove to writer Greg Rucka when it came to her role in the adaptation of his celebrated graphic novel "Whiteout."
Rucka's original graphic novel, co-created with artist Steve Lieber, follows U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko, who tracks a killer into Antarctica and must solve the murder mystery before the region is plunged into darkness for six months. The film, currently slated for a September 2009 release, features Beckinsale prominently as the gritty, tough-as-nails Stetko -- a character Rucka didn't initially think she could play.
"It’s weird. A lot of people on the message boards and people emailing me were going, 'Kate Beckinsale? She’s too pretty to be Carrie,'" the writer recalled. "I got to visit the set twice ... and the first time was pretty much devoted to seeing Kate Beckinsale and going 'Wow. How do they make them that pretty?'" Read more...

Earlier this week, "Scott Pilgrim" fans were treated to their first look at Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers, the object of the slacker hero's affections in the upcoming adaptation of Bryan Lee O'Malley's wildly successful series. Now "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" director Edgar Wright has posted three more photos of the much-anticipated film's cast in character -- including a better look at Winstead as Ramona Flowers.
The new photos include a shot of Satya Bhabha as Matthew Patel, the first of Ramona's evil ex-boyfriends that Scott Pilgrim fights.

Read on for images of Ellen Wong as Knives Chau, Scott's former girlfriend who still has feelings for him, and a new shot of Winstead as Ramona Flowers that provides a better look at how the character will appear on screen. Read more...

Bat-fans across the globe were treated to a bit of disappointing news last night, as The Hollywood Reporter broke the story that "The Dark Knight" director Christopher Nolan's next project will be "Inception" -- an original screenplay written by Nolan and described as a "contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind." This all but pushes back a sequel to 2008's box office champ for at least the next few years, as Nolan reportedly plans to begin filming "Inception" this summer for a 2010 release.
While the report puts to rest months of speculation as to whether Nolan would jump back into the Bat-franchise or take on a different project post-"Dark Knight," it's the details surrounding Nolan's next venture that have left fans with even more questions than answers. Read more...

When Josh Brolin name drops, people should listen. Back when Brolin was still contemplating whether he would play Jonah Hex, DC's scarred gunslinger, he told MTV News that the script was interesting if you casted, say, John Malkovich alongside him. Well, guess who's just been cast as Hex's nemesis? According to Variety, it's none other than Malkovich.
Malkovich will play Turnbull, a wealthy Southern plantation owner whose son is killed by Union soldiers in the Civil War. One of the few recurring villains in Hex's solo series, Turnbull was known at first as "the man with the eagle-topped cane." He was later revealed to be Quentin Turnbull, father of Jonah's best friend, Jeb. Jeb was killed by Union forces after Jonah surrendered to them, and Turnbull blamed Hex for the loss of his son. The writing/directing duo behind "The Matrix" films could be headed for some familiar superhero fare, according to a big ol' rumor that just hit the 'Net. According to Ain't It Cool News, brothers Andy and Larry Wachowski might be currently deciding between two very comics-savvy projects: their much-discussed live-action "Plastic Man" movie and a reboot of the "Superman" film franchise.
AICN tipster "Ballack" has reported that frequent Wachowski collaborator James McTeigue (who directed their adaptation of Alan Moore's "V For Vendetta") told an interviewer in Berlin that the next project on the brothers' plate was originally scheduled to be the "Plastic Man" movie -- but a shakeup at the studio has delayed the film indefinitely. This development, however, has opened up a discussion with the Wachowskis to possibly helm a three-part reboot of the "Superman" film franchise.
But wait, there's more! Read more...

There's been no shortage of casting rumors flying around when it comes to potential villains for the next Batman film, whether it's Rachel Weisz playing Catwoman or Eddie Murphy playing The Riddler. And while we've had some fun with them from time to time, there are a few rumors that seem plausible enough to bring to the stars themselves for comment -- for example, the recent buzz that "Sideways" star Paul Giamatti could play The Penguin in the follow-up to "The Dark Knight."
When MTV News bumped into Giamatti, we ran the rumor by him to find out what he had to say about it.
"That would be fantastic," Giamatti told MTV News. "I'd love to do that." Read more...

FROM MOVIES BLOG: “Children of Men” told a haunting apocalyptic tale of a world in which all women are infertile and mankind is slowly dying off. Clive Owen and Julianne Moore gave admirably restrained performances. Beautifully shot, combining the best elements of the sci-fi and thriller genres, “Children” was one of the finest films of 2006—and no one went to see it (the US gross didn’t even cover half its $76 million budget).
Yet rumors of another “Children” installment have persisted, so writer/director Alfonso Cuarón spoke with MTV News to shoot down those rumors (as well as rumors he’ll be directing an adaptation of emo comic series, “The Umbrella Academy”). Or rather, he spoke with us to mock the very idea of picking up the “Children” story where he left it, with both Owen and Moore’s characters dead and the first baby born in years stowed away on a secret humanity-saving ship.

FROM MULTIPLAYER: I got my first try at “Watchmen: The End is Nigh” recently, button-mashing my way through the download-only co-op brawler coming next month to the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. (Click here for a huge gallery of new "Watchmen" video game screenshots over at MTV.com!)
It’s a brawler, the kind of game that doesn’t reveal its complexities without repeat, dedicated play. What I played was simple and straight-forward: I fought in the gentleman style of Nite Owl, using an electric shock gun and dashing martial arts moves. Then I fought as Rorschach, tumbling on the ground and bull-rushing opponents.
For “Watchmen” fans, it’s notable that this game is official. It’s a prequel to to graphic novel, occuring 10 years before the mid-80s era focused on by the movie and comic. The comic’s writer Alan Moore wasn’t involved (he’s not involved in next month’s movie, either), but the comic’s editor, Len Wein, wrote the script. The comic’s artist, Dave Gibbons, oversaw the creation of the comic-book style sequences that play between the game’s six chapters. The movie’s actors voice their characters — only Nite Owl and Rorschach are playable; whether Dr. Manhattan and the rest of the fiction’s core cast appear isn’t being shared with the press.
