'The Joker'Ask just about anyone who saw "The Dark Knight" which performer they thought stole the show, and chances are they'll say "Heath Ledger" faster than The Joker made a pencil disappear in the film. Heck, even the esteemed Academy thinks so -- after all, when was the last time we saw a costumed supervillian from a comic book flick make the cut for a major nomination, let alone stand as the current odds-on favorite to win, huh?

There's certainly no debating that Ledger left some huge shoes to fill should The Joker return in future installments of the Batman franchise (and the chances are good, since, given his recent statements, Warner Bros. CEO Jeff Bewkes hopes to keep churning out Batman movies for some time to come), but one fansite -- TheUltimateJoker.com -- is petitioning Warner Bros. to not only recognize Ledger as "The Best Joker Ever," but retire the Clown Prince of Crime altogether from any future installments of Batman films. Everyone's getting in on the "Watchmen" love these days, it seems, as the online mecca of all things tech-geekery, BoingBoing, recently posted a "Watchmen"-themed episode of their video series that explores the more technical side of bringing Dr. Manhattan -- and his nether regions -- to life in Zack Snyder's much-anticipated adaptation. Here, the "Watchmen" director and visual effects supervisor John "DJ" Des Jardin address the task of bringing the "unfilmable" story to the big screen.

In the video, Snyder also explains the trouble of bringing all of the "little elements" in the celebrated graphic novel to life, such as the flurry of scenes that represent Dr. Manhattan's journey through his own timeline. Read More...

Tim KashFROM NEWSROOM BLOG: The Comedian’s blood-splattered smiley-face pin is one of the most iconic symbols in the comic book world, so when I hosted the latest “Watchmen” edition of our hit MTV Movies show “Spoilers” last night at the Pacific Design Centre in Los Angeles (the special airs Saturday at 8 PM), I thought it would be a nice addition to my outfit.

After all, with the beautiful Kimmy Stolz co-hosting in a little green dress, I had to do a little something to hold my own — plus, I have to admit, wearing the Comedian’s pin appealed to my geek side.

However, as it turns out, the “Watchmen” pin is not exactly the easiest thing to find in L.A.

By now we've all seen (well, more like heard) "The Dark Knight" star Christian Bale's infamous rant on the set of "Terminator: Salvation," and likewise have been treated to countless spoofs of the on-set tantrum (including one featuring our very own MTV News Movies Editor Josh Horowitz). However, leave it to Mighty Marvel to take what should be a played-out piece of behind-the-scenes embarrassment and completely reinvent it.

Do yourself a huge favor and check out the clip below, featuring everyone's favorite "Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing":

Mickey RourkeEarlier this week, Splash Page reported on the latest in what's become a string of make-your-head-spin "Iron Man 2’" casting rumors, as Mickey Rourke declared that he was dropping out of the "Iron Man" sequel, simply stating that, "Right now, we’re not doing ‘Iron Man 2.’”

However -- if a report on Entertainment Weekly can be trusted -- there still may be a glimmer of hope for fans who were looking forward to seeing the Oscar-nominated actor take a turn as one of ol' Shellhead's rogues. According to unnamed sources, the offer by Marvel Entertainment made to Rourke still stands, adding "nothing's yet being negotiated." Read More...

Wil WheatonIt wasn't hard to attract an audience for this week's taping of "Spoilers," MTV's movie special airing Saturday at 8 PM that offers up sneak peeks, exclusive footage and interviews with the cast and crew of the most anticipated films for the upcoming year. Not only did attendees get to catch an early screening of "Watchmen," Zack Snyder's live-action adaptation of one of comics' most celebrated series of all time, but they also had the chance to watch the film alongside the people who made it happen (including Snyder himself and the "Watchmen" cast), and a veritable who's who of movers and shakers in the geek scene.

Foremost among the assembled ambassadors of geekery was MTV's special guest, Wil Wheaton, an accomplished author ("Just A Geek"), actor ("Stand By Me," "Star Trek: The Next Generation"), blogger (WilWheaton.net) and, as he puts it, "just this guy, you know?" And as one might expect from any blogger worth his pageviews, Wheaton has already posted his review of the "Spoilers" event and, of course, "Watchmen" -- which he calls "the best movie inspired by a graphic novel that I've ever seen."

So, with that high praise from one of the geek elite in mind, I followed up with Wheaton for a few more questions about the film and its place in comic book movie history. Read More...

Jeffrey Dean Morgan in 'Watchmen'Back in November, we brought you the news that Sylvain White was bringing the DC/Vertigo series "The Losers" to the big screen. White's deal didn't cause a lot of buzz at the time, and the trades were confused as to whether it was the 1970s DC series, or the 2004 DC/Vertigo series that was being adapted. Late last year, producer Joel Silver seemed unsure as to when or if the film would really take off, noting that "The Losers" faced competition from a remake of "The Dirty Dozen."

Look for the buzz to change now, as Variety reports that Jeffrey Dean Morgan has signed on to star as the head "Loser" for Warner Bros. And the film is indeed based on the 2004 "reimagining" series by DC/Vertigo, according to the report. Read More...

Attention, "Watchmen" fans: You already know that another piece of never-before-seen "Watchmen" footage will air on MTV's "Spoilers" this Saturday at 8 PM, but we have a quick peek at what you'll see right here and now on Splash Page.

One Owl Ship? Check. One prison riot? Check. Dozens of inmates stupid enough to take on Silk Spectre II and Nite Owl II? Double check. You can probably guess what happens next.

Just seeing the screenshots and reading about it probably isn't enough, though. You want to see the "Watchmen" duo in action, don't you? Well, be sure to check out "Spoilers" for the aforementioned "Watchmen" scene, as well as first looks at "Star Trek," "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," "Land of the Lost" and "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen." Oh, and we've posted another shot from Saturday's "Spoilers" footage after the jump. Read More...

DeadpoolLeaked "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" movie trailers may not be the only culprits out there giving away "Wolverine" movie spoilers these days. What appears to be a new Deadpool action figure from Hasbro's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" movie toy line has surfaced on the 'Net -- and he comes packaged with some previously unseen facial disfiguration.

One of the intensely speculated issues regarding the live-action debut of Marvel's "Merc with a Mouth" is whether the character will stay true to his comic-book source material and become horribly disfigured as a result of the government-sponsored experimentation on his body. All we've seen of the movie character thus far has been the decidedly un-scarred face of actor Ryan Reynolds, who plays Deadpool in the film -- but the new toy depicts a decidedly different Deadpool. During last night's taping of MTV's "Spoilers" (airing Saturday at 8 PM EST), "Watchmen" fans were not only treated to an early screening of the much-anticipated film, but also to a Q&A with director Zack Snyder that covered some very buzzworthy topics for fans of the celebrated graphic novel.

"When I originally got the script, Adrian died at the end," Snyder told the crowd at the taping, adding that the task of making sure the live-action "Watchmen" matched up with the print version was "the biggest fight for me."

Snyder also addressed the steamy sex scenes between Silk Spectre II, Malin Akerman, and Nite Owl II, Patrick Wilson ("They're not too hard to look at"), and his much-debated use of slow-motion during filming ("[It] helps me to enjoy the face-smashing even more"). The filmmaker even offered up some additional explanation for one of the most controversial changes he made to the story. Read More...
