As "Watchmen" begins its first full week of wide-release after a blockbuster debut weekend, Warner Bros. and DC Comics are already hard at work on their upcoming in-development superhero project, "Green Lantern," which -- along with "Jonah Hex" -- is set to be the next offering in their line of feature films hitting theaters next year.
SuperHeroHype.com caught up with "Green Lantern" producer Donald De Line to get an update on the film's progress, and what all of you GL fans out there can expect from the adaptation.
"Our story is the Hal Jordan origin story, but creating the character of Hal Jordan that is a real character that will resonate with the fanbase is what we need to do," De Line told SHH.com. "You have to make him credible and somebody to care about and tell a good story, and I think if we do that, we'll be okay."
Yet one of the main aspects of the Green Lantern mythos -- adding to a mix of high action, drama and science fiction -- has been a dose of humor, which De Line insists will remain in the Hollywood offering.
"It's going to be a series of big stakes and big action, but it absolutely has a sense of humor," De Line hinted. "I think people accept real life, even with really serious situations, with humor as part of that situation, as we experience in life, you have to have that. That's how people cope, so they've done it so well in these other movies. I think that people are absolutely ready. It doesn't have to fall on one side of the fence vs. the other."
And while what's been reported so far regarding the "Green Lantern" film has been met with fan acclaim, one sticking point over the past few weeks has been the casting rumors. And while some actors that have been hinted at taking on the mantle of DC's Emerald Enforcer have either reportedly shown little interest in the role or didn't even know they were in the running, De Line insists that they will not skew younger for the character, adding that their Hal Jordan will be in the "late-20's, early 30's" age range.
Have you liked what you've been hearing so far regarding a "Green Lantern" feature film? Who would you like to see take on the role of Hal Jordan? Let's hear it in the comments.
