With "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" only months away from worldwide release, information about the new film has started clawing its way through the internet with berserker rage. Promotional images from the movie have given first glimpses of Gambit and Agent Zero, while other photos highlight characters such as Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds.
While promoting his latest flick “Adventureland,” Reynolds spoke to several news outlets about his work on “Wolverine.” According to the comedian-turned-action star, Reynolds is only playing Deadpool's alter ego Wade Wilson -- and not the masked anti-hero that comic fans have come to know.
“Fox may differ from me, but I personally don’t consider him as Deadpool,” Reynolds told Latino Review of his character. “I’m the thing that will eventually become Deadpool.”
“I really think I more or less play Wade Wilson,” he elaborated in an interview with Collider. “I’m playing the creature that will eventually become Deadpool, but in this movie it’s his newly formed version.”
Reynolds’ recent comments add fuel to the fanboy fire currently making the rounds that Deadpool’s character has changed significantly for the movie. Early images of an alleged Deadpool action figure and shots of an identical new mutant from the latest trailer have many fans worried that the character has been drastically altered. Combine that with the reports that “Wolverine’s” recent reshoots involved a hefty dose of Ryan Reynolds and the evidence that Deadpool and this mysterious mutant are one and the same becomes quite compelling.
