Not to be outdone by Monday's exclusive "Astro Boy" poster preview, an image from Imagi Studio's other ambitious anime-to-CGI feature film, "Gatchaman," has made its way to the Web.
Based on the 1970s anime "Science Team Gatchaman" ("Battle of the Planets" in North America), "Gatchaman" is takes place in a future dealing with environmental and technological issues and follows five super-powered teens in bird-themed uniforms as they protect Earth from alien invaders.
The new one-sheet poster, featuring second-in-command Joe Asakura (known as Jason in BOTP) and an unspecified 2010 release date, appeared on a Japanese Gatchaman blog after the Tokyo International Anime Fair. (Check out the full poster and more "Gatchaman" images after the jump.)

Coupled with images on Imagi's Web site, the poster helps paint a somewhat clearer picture of what the science-ninja team might look like in action. The other images include shots spanning the Gatchaman universe, from futuristic cityscapes to an intense high-speed chase. There's also a shot of what fans can assume are the boots of female teammate Jun and her signature yo-yo weapon.

Written by "Batman: The Animated Series" and "Lost" scribe Paul Dini, the film seems visually faithful to its previous incarnations. However, with few official details to go on, Gatchamaniacs still have plenty to think about.
Will Imagi's "Gatchaman" ring more authentic than the Americanized "Battle of the Planets?" What do you think of the film's CGI look? Sound off in the comments!
