Heralded as the biggest showdown in fake news history since the epic Jon Stewart/Jim Cramer face-off from a week prior, acclaimed author Neil Gaiman boldly confronted Colbert Nation leader Stephen Colbert this Monday on "The Colbert Report." How would the admittedly British writer fare against accusations that he won the prestigious Newberry Medal -- an American award -- by stealing it from American writers? Find out in the clip below:
"Obviously, until you write 'F--k It, We're All Going To Die,' the Newberry Medal is going to go to people like me," Gaiman said in response to Colbert's earlier idea for his own, hopeful-Newberry-winning book. Read more...

As one of the biggest stars of the upcoming big-screen adaptation of Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.'s "Kick-Ass," Nicolas Cage is as good a barometer as any for the health of the project. As the film continues post-production work, Cage's marked enthusiasm could be good news for fans of the "real-world" superhero title.
Cage, who plays Damon “Big Daddy” Macready, cop and vigilante father of the sword-wielding pre-teen "Hit Girl" (played by Chloe Moretz), told MTV News he was in good company on the set of the film.
"I liked working with Chloe. I thought she was really cool and excellent," said Cage who noted their characters' unique form of bonding via brutal dispatching of criminals. "That's a really twisted relationship." Read more...

Last year, DC/Wildstorm Comics and Dynamite Entertainment gave us horror comic fans a little slice of heaven (or hell, depending how hardcore you are) in the form of "Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash," a six-issue mini-series by writers Jeff Katz and James Kuhoric and artist Jason Craig which found the three slasher-flick titans squaring off in a terrifying-yet-hysterical showdown. The book proved to be a surprise success, and fans (including yours truly) have been waiting for the inevitable follow-up ever since.
Well, that wait is finally over, as the folks over at Slash Film have wrangled a first look at the upcoming sequel in the form of a triptych cover by Arthur Suydam ("Marvel Zombies").

After the jump, we've got the lowdown on what fans can expect from the series (quick prediction: lots of bloody death-via-machete/chainsaw/finger blades). Read more...

Between the "Wolverine" video games, the "Wolverine" action figures, the break-neck "Wolverine" movie trailers, and the general hype surrounding "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," one might forget about the whole "Wolverine" comics thing -- but Marvel certainly hasn't.
Indeed, the publisher has dedicated the month leading up to the "Wolverine" movie's May 1 release (which is also Wolverine's 35th anniversary) to "the best there is at what he does" with two major events.
First up is a new series titled "Wolverine: Weapon X" by the creative team of writer Jason Aaron and artist Ron Garney, featuring variant covers by some of the biggest talents in the industry. And speaking of art, Marvel will unveil their line of "fine art" covers throughout the month as part of "Wolverine Art Appreciation Month." (Feast your eyes on some of our favorite samples of upcoming Wolverine imagery after the jump.) Read more...

Last year, Splash Page had a chance to catch up with Radical Comics president and publisher Barry Levine, who spoke at length about Radical's "Caliber" -- a retelling of the legend of King Arthur set in America's Wild West era -- and how he and "Caliber" scribe, Sam Sarkar, had hoped to convince director John Woo to helm the adaptation.
Since it's been all quiet on the "Caliber" front since then, we decided to check in with Sarkar to see if there's been any progress on the flick that, ever since Johnny Depp's Infinitum Nihil production company (where Sarkar serves as head of development) came onboard, looks to be on the fast track.
"I just finished the adaptation of the screenplay," Sarkar told MTV News. "Between now and the Cannes Film Festival we're setting it up." Read more...

"Punisher: War Zone" hits shelves on DVD and Blu-Ray today (March 17), and... wait, has it been that long since we last checked in with Ray Stevenson's Frank Castle? Apparently it has, but it looks like the crew behind Marvel's gun-toting vigilante has been plenty busy since the ultra-violent film debuted back in December.
Along with putting together a DVD chock full o' special features and behind-the-scenes featurettes, the Lionsgate Home Entertainment team has delivered an exclusive clip from the new "Punisher" DVD/Blu-Ray for Splash Page readers. Check out "Punisher Training Camp" below:

With Mickey Rourke's casting in "Iron Man 2" essentially a done deal at Marvel Studios, the Oscar-nominated "Wrestler" star has already begun preparing for the role -- in a Russian prison cell.
"If I ever did time, I would like to work in a bakery, because the smell of fresh bread reminds me of childhood," said Rourke, according to The Moscow Times. The tour took him through Butyrka Prison in Moscow, talking to guards, getting a feel for the atmosphere, and even testing out the beds, Access Hollywood reported. (Check out a photo from Rourke's "Iron Man 2" prison tour after the jump!) Read more...

Not content with the lion's share of the comic book market and a slew of highly anticipated films, Marvel announced today that it will partner with upstart video game developer Gazillion Entertainment to produce online multiplayer titles based on its vast library of iconic characters. The two companies have inked a 10-year exclusivity agreement.
In a release sent wide this afternoon, Gazillion made known their plans for games based on Marvel properties, which includes "Super Hero Squad," based on the popular, younger-skewed toys and soon-to-be Cartoon Network series, and "Marvel Universe," a massively multiplayer online game (MMO) for PC and various game consoles. No other details have been released as of press time regarding the two in-development games. Read more...

It's no secret that Eric Powell's "The Goon" is one of our favorite comic book series around Splash Page HQ, but even though we've seen the star of the award-winning series partner with Hellboy for an occasional team-up adventure, this is one match-up we didn't see coming. We're proud to announce that this summer The Goon will face the likes of "Dethklok" band members Nathan Explosion, William Murderface and the rest of Adult Swim's "Metalocalypse" cast in a new one-shot issue titled, appropriately enough, "The Goon Vs. Dethklok."
Written and drawn by "The Goon" creator Eric Powell alongside "Metalocalypse" creator Brendan Small, the special will hit shelves in July 2009. Check out the exclusive promo video created by Small for "The Goon Vs. Dethklok" below:
Feel like your face was just rocked off by the merest hint of this collaborative effort? Yeah, same here. After the jump, see the full cover to "The Goon vs. Dethklok" and get everything we know about the series thus far. Read more...

A trio of new international posters for "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" have popped up online featuring Logan (Hugh Jackman), Sabretooth (Liev Schreiber) and Gambit (Taylor Kitsch). While the images don't exactly offer up any new scoops about the film, we do see a new ("bad-ass", even?) pose from Wolverine and his nemesis -- and heck, it's just another opportunity to brush up on our foreign language skills.
After the jump, check out all three images of the international promo posters, as well as a quick roundup of "Wolverine" movie news that's been burning up the InterWebs lately. Read more...
