It’s St. Patrick’s Day, folks! What better time to talk about Irish and Irish-American super-heroes? Here's a quick roundup of some of our favorite heroes who are likely to be celebrating today around the comics world.
BANSHEE: Sean Cassidy was a blue-collar guy from County Mayo, Ireland, who also had a secret -- he was a mutant, born with sonic-based abilities that allowed him to fly and take down opponents with devastating sonic attacks. Originally an agent for Interpol, Banshee later joined the X-Men for many years and for a while was the teacher for a younger generation of mutants. His daughter, Theresa (a.k.a. "Syryn") inherited identical abilities and for a while was a member of X-Force. Read more...

By now, you've had a chance to not only watch our exclusive (and final) "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" movie trailer repeatedly, but also probably spent the better part of a day freeze-framing it to check out every individual "Wolverine" movie moment. And you already know that one of the biggest questions regarding the clip has to be "Who is that creepy-looking dude in the 'Wolverine' trailer with his mouth sewn shut?"
Given that a vast majority of online sleuths are saying it's Deadpool, we figured we'd go directly to the source and ask Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds if the mutant we see in the trailer is indeed Marvel's "Merc with a Mouth."
"That, I would say, is Deadpool, yeah," Reynolds told MTV News. "When I’m in the scarred makeup too, and you’ll see closer shots obviously in the film, and it’s hard to even tell that’s me, but you can tell. You've just got to find a better shot." Read more...

Over the past few months, we've been hearing quite a bit in regards to "Sin City 2" -- mostly from the cast of the first "Sin City" saying they'd either love to head back to the mean streets of Basin City for a sequel, or claiming to have inside knowledge as to when a follow-up will begin production... yet no one seems to be on the same page.
Enter Cinema Blend, who had the chance to catch up with "Sin City" co-director Robert Rodriguez during SXSW to get some answers as to if/when fans can expect a sequel. "I always say 'Sin City 2' [is] right around the corner, because that’s what everybody wants to hear and I like pleasing the audience," said Rodriguez, only to add, "It might be a long corner.” Read more...

After a flood of recent "Thor" movie news that included a potential Josh Hartnett casting as the villain, Loki, and a reshuffled Marvel schedule that gave "Thor" a new release date, it looks like there are more changes afoot for the superhero son of Odin. Along with Alexander Skarsgård joining Hartnett in the potential "Thor" casting mix, a new name has been added to the possible list of "Thor" cast members: Natalie Portman.
"I'm told Natalie Portman is in the lead for the female lead," reports Deadline Hollywood Daily blogger Nikki Finke . Read more...

FROM MULTIPLAYER BLOG: Just after the release of “Watchmen” in movie theaters last week, I spoke with Seth Gerson, president of Last Legion Games, the company that developed “Watchmen: Justice is Coming” for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Released day and date with the film, “Justice” is touted as an massively multiplayer title combining RPG and fighting elements. And like “The End is Nigh,” the XBLA/PSN/PC title developed by Deadline Games, “Justice” is set in the 1970s before the time of the movie.
However, there was no connection in the development of the titles aside from having the same writer, Peter Aperlo, as well as contact with Warner Bros. And instead of playing main characters Nite Owl and Rorschach, players will are able to create their own unique anti-hero, though Gerson suggested that one of the movie’s characters will appear in the story.

He's currently got the #1 movie in the country to his credit, taking down "Watchmen" in the process, but it looks like director Andy Fickman will soon be trading alien witches for humongous monsters with his next project.
According to a report on First Showing, Fickman ("Race to Witch Mountain") has been pegged to direct Disney's upcoming adaptation of AiT/PlanetLar's "Monster Attack Network," which follows an elite squad of first responders who are tasked with guarding a tropical paradise from a seemingly-constant barrage of attacks via giant monsters. (Better yet, check out our exclusive seven-page preview of "Monster Attack Network" for a solid idea of what to expect from the film.) Read more...

Those that follow “Sandman” scribe Neil Gaiman's updates on Twitter might have noticed something odd today. The acclaimed writer, whose novels “Coraline” and “Stardust” have been adapted into feature-length films, is set to appear on tonight’s edition of “The Colbert Report” with Stephen Colbert.
“Good morning world,” wrote Gaiman today. “I am blinking and strange-haired today. Will be interviewed on Colbert Report tonight, the reality of which just hit me.” Read more...

Despite impassioned pleas from its screenwriters and an expletive-laden counterpoint from geek comedian Patton Oswald directed at the film's detractors, "Watchmen" couldn't manage to draw the crowds back again during its second weekend of wide-release, slipping to #2 at the box office and pulling in a mere $18M overall -- a 67% drop from its first weekend's gross.
However, despite the rollercoaster plunge in ticket sales, "Watchmen" continues to turn a profit, pulling in an overall domestic take of $86M over the course of its 10 days of release thus far. However, as industry analysts have pointed out, the film faces an uphill struggle to turn a profit -- let alone break even -- but Warner Bros. execs remains optimistic. Read more...

We've been all over the long-awaited adaptation of Dark Horse Comics' "The Goon" -- from one-on-one's with series creator Eric Powell to exclusive video clips introducing newcomers to the "Goon" cast of characters -- but thus far, we hadn't seen any actual images from the upcoming David Fincher-produced animated flick.
Now, AICN has posted a pair of still images direct from the film, and to coin a phrase from Frankie, they're like a "KNIFE TO THE EYE!" of Goon goodness. Check out the first one below:

After the jump, we've got the second still featuring the face only a circus strongwoman could love. Read more...

In the ongoing debate over how much of "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" will be animated, actor Mark Webber seems to be in agreement with creator Bryan Lee O'Malley in his assessment that "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" won't rely too heavily on animation. Speculation that director Edgar Wright will be experimenting with heavy doses of animation initially caught fire when actor Brandon Routh commented that "Scott Pilgrim" would blend "live-action with hand-drawn animation."
"I am under the impression now that there's no animation -- it's a live-action film," Webber told MTV News. "Any of the motion capture and green-screen effects are going to be to accentuate the realism that we're going for." Read more...
