'Tales of the Black Freighter'Yesterday we posted a trio of images from "Tales of the Black Freighter," the story-within-a-story from "Watchmen" that director Zack Snyder adapted into an animated feature to accompany the recently released blockbuster. Featuring the voice of "300" star Gerard Butler, "Black Freighter" tells the tale of a man desperate to save his home from a bloodthirsty crew of pirates by any means necessary, and the descent into madness spawned by his vengeance-fueled mission.

Empire Online has posted a featurette focusing on "Black Freighter" and narrated by production designer Chris Watts that explains the genesis of the animated project and why it was such an important part of the "Watchmen" story. (Check out the full video after the jump.) Read more...

'David Hasselhoff'That sound you hear? That's Marvel fandom, still applauding the recent news that Samuel L. Jackson will be appearing as Nick Fury in an unprecedented nine-movie deal with Marvel Films. But as we all know, Jackson came dangerously close to walking away from the "Iron Man" role that he's slowly becoming synonymous with in geek circles.

And while it would be damn-near impossible to replace him, at least we know the actor who played the role of Fury prior to Jackson stood ready and waiting in the wings.

"I know Nick Fury inside and out now, but I've already got my validation," David Hasselhoff told MTV News. The former "Knight Rider" actor, who played the super-spy in 1998's "Nick Fury: Agent of SHIELD" had quite a bit to say about both his time as the cigar-chomping SHIELD chief, as well as his successor. Iron Man vs Bruce LeeBy Josh Wigler

Tony Stark has had some formidable foes in the past. From Jeff Bridges' Obadiah Stane in "Iron Man" to his comic book nemesis The Mandarin, the red-and-gold clad superhero has had his hands full. In "Iron Man 2," a trio of new antagonists will enter the fray, including Sam Rockwell as Stark's rival, Justin Hammer, Mickey Rourke as a hybrid of Whiplash and Crimson Dynamo and possibly Scarlett Johansson as the antihero Black Widow. But there's someone else ol' Shellhead should be worried about more than any of three aforementioned characters.

Yes, the latest villain to challenge Iron Man has revealed himself, and his name is... Bruce Lee?

French-Canadian filmmaker Patrick Boivin has created a stunning, minute-long "Iron Man vs Bruce Lee" stop-motion video featuring the titular characters doing kung fu battle. The video puts action figures into the lead roles and the results are anything but predictable. (Check out the full video after the jump!) Read more...

'Freedom Formula'By Josh Wigler

It appears that "Superman Returns" and "X-Men" director Bryan Singer is indeed returning to the comic book genre with "Freedom Formula: Ghost of the Wasteland" -- confirming earlier reports of his attachment to the adaptation. Variety reports that New Regency has acquired the rights to the film, which is based on Radical Publishing's futuristic comic book series. An announcement last July revealed that Singer was attached to the film adaptation, but the official word on studio involvement is a new development.

"Freedom Formula: Ghost of the Wasteland" tells the story of a future landscape where genetically engineered pilots battle in massive exo-suits. When one such pilot discovers he has the power to bring about massive changes in society, his life takes a dramatically different path. Read more...

Venom and CarnageBy Josh Wigler. Additional Reporting By Rodrigo Perez.

Back in July, word broke that Sony was interested in creating a "Venom" spin-off from the "Spider-Man" franchise, but there's been little movement since then other than a few words from symbiote sympathizers David Michelinie, Peter David, Kaare Andrews and Peter Milligan. Apparently, not even Venom's previous handler, "Spider-Man 3" director Sam Raimi, has a clue about that movie's progress -- or that it's even in development at all!

"I guess I don't know about that," Raimi told MTV News when asked about the "Venom" film. "Do you mean Carnage? Maybe you're referring to a separate movie?" Read more...

'Wolverine'By Josh Wigler

Now that we've watched the "Watchmen" (or, at least, some of us did) the summer belongs to Wolverine. While fans continue to speculate about "X-Men Origins: Wolverine's" cast of characters -- with some of the actors, including Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), weighing in themselves -- the press machine has been rolling strong with various "Wolverine" movie images and "Wolverine" trailers popping up from the new movie.

Now you can add yet another poster to that ever-growing online collection, as well as a trio of new television spots for the much-anticipated film. (Check out the full poster and video after the jump!) Read more...

'Astro Boy'It looks as though the folks over at Summit Entertainment are going full-throttle with the "Astro Boy" hype machine this week, as not even 24 hours have passed since we debuted an exclusive first look at the new "Astro Boy" one-sheet promo poster, and now we see an all-new teaser trailer for the film pop up over on Hulu.

While this certainly isn't the first time we've seen Astro Boy in action, it is the first time we get to hear his voice (Freddie Highmore) and catch a glimpse of the film's other characters -- like Dr. Tenma and Cora-- come to life. (Check out the new trailer after the jump.) Read more...

Harley QuinnEver since the success of "The Dark Knight," movie fans have been debating and discussing which Batman villains should on the big screen next. "Batman Begins" had quite a bit of success in using villains that were not generally known to non-comic fans, such as Ra’s al Ghul, Scarecrow, Carmine Falcone and Mr. Zsasz.

So, instead of talking about how they should do new versions of the Riddler, Bane and Poison Ivy, here’s a list of bad guys who haven't been brought to the silver screen thus far, and which we believe are long overdue for live-action treatment. Read more...

Sam RaimiContributed by Rodrigo Perez

FROM MOVIES BLOG: For a few years now, there’s been ample talk of revising the Sam Raimi helmed “Evil Dead” franchise with star Bruce Campbell telling MTV last Spring that a 4th installment of the horror-comedy film would not feature a younger sidekick to give it more contemporary juice as many sit-coms in the past have done so to desperately revive their ailing product. Back then, only a year ago Campbell was raring to go.

However, Campbell himself recently shed a little doubt on the project himself when he told the A/V Club that he felt there should be no more stories involving the Ash Williams protagonist he plays in the “Evil Dead” trilogy. "I think there should be an end to everything,” he responded when asked whether the character of Ash is worthy of more movies. “I mean, did anyone really want 'Indiana Jones 4'? The answer is no. I've taken a poll in about seven theaters now. Of 300 people, three hands go up. You are bound to disappoint."

Emily BluntEarlier this month, it seemed Emily Blunt was poised to make the leap from critically adored actress to household name. Word was she’d been cast as Black Widow in the sequel to last year’s $580 million blockbuster comic book adaptation “Iron Man.” After her scene-stealing “Devil Wears Prada” role and a gripping turn in “Sunshine Cleaning ” (in theaters now), a major part in a big-budget tentpole movie seemed only appropriate.

As it turned out, Blunt indeed landed what could be her breakout role, except it won’t be alongside Marvel’s Tony Stark in "Iron Man 2," but rather with Jack Black in Fox’s “Gulliver’s Travels.” In a conversation with MTV News, Blunt spoke out about having to drop out of “Iron Man” because of a scheduling conflict with “Gulliver’s.” Read more...
