Clearly, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" star Ryan Reynolds has at least one thing in common with his character, Deadpool: Once he starts talking, it's nearly impossible to get him to stop!

Not that we're complaining, of course, after dropping the news that the creepy-looking mystery mutant in the final "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" trailer was indeed him (i.e., Deadpool), Reynolds went on to discuss the importance of the character, his origin story in the film, and his desire to play the role of the "Merc with a Mouth" for years now.

"To be able to [play the part of Deadpool] in 'Wolverine' is incredible, you know, and it really does trace the origins of the character Deadpool," said Reynolds. "You really see his birth, his evolution from Wade Wilson to Deadpool, and really he is more or less the creature that becomes Deadpool later on, but we see his humble beginnings." Read More...

Chris PineBy Josh Wigler

News on the "Green Lantern" front has been ratcheting up lately with word that the film will shoot in Australia this September with Martin Campbell at the helm. As the shoot date nears, fans are scratching their heads wondering who will play Hal Jordan. According to two reliable sites, the mystery may be over soon – sources suggest that Chris Pine is the frontrunner to play Green Lantern.

IESB broke the news yesterday that "Star Trek" actor Pine is at the top of a short list of desired stars for the "Green Lantern" lead. The rumor mill was fueled further by a report from Latino Review that Pine isn't just the leading contender – he's been offered the role. "It's more than just a rumor... it's LEGIT!" exclaims Latino Review's El Mayimbe. "According to my sources, 'THE OFFICIAL OFFER is out to Chris Pine for the role.'"

Yet despite Latino Review’s "scoop," rival news outlet Collider is challenging claims that Chris Pine has been offered the coveted role of Hal Jordan. Read More...

'Watchmen: Under The Hood'Even though the buzz surrounding "Watchmen" has slowly begun to die down (if last weekend's box office drop is any indication, that is), fans of the film still have plenty to look forward -- namely, "Watchmen: Tales of the Black Freighter," the upcoming two-disc DVD/Blu-ray feature containing the titular story and the Minutemen exposé, "Under the Hood," both originally parts of the best-selling "Watchmen" comic but not included in the film.

And while we've been able to show plenty from "Tales of the Black Freighter" here at Splash Page, very little has been seen or heard about with regards to "Under the Hood" -- a pseudo tell-all book by Hollis Mason (a.k.a. Nite Owl I) which chronicles the rise and fall of the original Minutemen (highlights of which were very briefly touched on in the title sequence of "Watchmen"). Today, however, Warner Bros. has released a Q & A with "Under the Hood" director Eric Matthies, in which he discusses his approach to the adaptation, the cast, and his favorite scene from the animated feature. 'Whiteout'One of the more intriguing adaptations that's been floating around comic book movie circles the past few years is the often-delayed Antarctic murder mystery "Whiteout," created by Greg Rucka and former Splash Page cover artist, Steve Lieber. Originally scheduled to hit theaters in early 2008, the film was ultimately pushed back to a current release date of September 11 of this year.

And while fans anticipating the film have made do with the sporadic-at-best "Whiteout" teaser posters and "Whiteout" publicity stills, it certainly hasn't soured Rucka's excitement for the upcoming adaptation. In fact, the writer is hoping that the film spawns a possible franchise.

"We’ve always thought that Carrie [Stetko]’s story had three parts," Rucka told MTV News. "The third one -- which was always going to be the last one -- addresses the idea of how this woman who has had this very intimate relationship with Antarctica ends up leaving." Read More...

We've already seen the final movie trailer for "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," but 20th Century Fox has cut together a new TV spot for the film that is now making the rounds. Check it out below.

Up until now, the promo images and big trailer moments have focused on the movie's male cast members, like Gambit, Sabretooth, Blob and Wraith, but this new spot opts to include a couple of ladies in Wolverine's life. Read More...

'Wathcmen' After "Watchmen" opened to less-then-expected opening weekend box office numbers (not to mention a major drop-off in second weekend sales), was panned by most critics and, more importantly, deemed "too confusing" or outright offensive by many parents expecting a standard superhero flick (which resulted in numerous reports of families walking out of the show), could the "end be nigh" for R-rated superhero films at Warner Bros.?

According to IESB, an unnamed source "buried deep into the folds of the Warner Brother's lot" reports that the studio may indeed be putting an end to R-rated superhero fare, and rather, sticking with films that carry a more family-friendly but still with an edge PG-13 rating moving forward. The source goes on to cite the financial success of such PG-13-rated flicks as "The Dark Knight" (currently at $1 billion and change) and "Iron Man" ($582M) as proof that movie going audiences may not be ready for more adult-themed superhero action. 'Green Lantern'Warner Bros' live-action “Green Lantern” movie might have a release date, but we still don’t have a Lantern. Since it’s still an open playing field for the film, we thought it was time for a casting call of our own -- beginning with a recap of what we know about the project and the character.

One of the most popular and recognizable superheroes in the DC Universe, Green Lantern is unlike Batman or Superman in that his near-unlimited power comes from an alien artifact (a ring, powered by a “lantern” battery) that has changed hands many times over the years. In 2007, Warner Bros announced that the "Green Lantern" movie would focus on one of the most popular and memorable Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan -- a cocky test pilot given the ring by a dying alien who sought someone “utterly honest and born without fear” to replace him. 'Two and a Half Watchmen'With "Watchmen" taking a hit its second week at the box office, a tense comics community might need something to take its mind off of ticket counts and critical reception. Leave it to the cast of Take180.com online series "Electric Spoofaloo" to attempt to do just that -- at least for three minutes.

After the jump, check out "Two and a Half Watchmen" -- a short that begins with a nod to the first "Watchmen" trailer and quickly morphs into a titular lampoon of the CBS television series "Two and a Half Men." There's even a tuxedo-clad Doctor Manhattan harmonizing with Rorschach a la Jon Cryer and Charlie Sheen, with an Angus T. Jones lookalike capping off the spoofed theme song in a spot-on creepy falsetto. Read More...

Earlier this month, I posted some all-new art by "Street Angel" co-creator Jim Rugg that was used in a live-action short film based on the quirky indie series. "Street Angel" director Lucas Testro followed that up by sending Splash Page an exclusive clip from the movie (which you can watch below), framed by the following synopsis:

"Jesse has fought her way through Dr Pangea's ninja henchman, but now finds her way blocked by a set of locked doors as Pangea's laser is about to fire. With doomsday only seconds away, Jesse resorts to another way down -- a rusty, old ventilation duct to who-knows-where..."

"I don't know how much you remember of the original comics, but this sequence mirrors pretty closely the equivalent sequence in 'Street Angel' #1," wrote Testro. "It also shows some of the mixed-media we use in the film, combining live action with occasional animated sections."

What did you think of the clip? Have you read "Street Angel"? Sound off in the comment section!

Last night's episode of "South Park" offered a parody of the "dark superhero" movie trend, and there was no shortage of references to subject matter Splash Page readers have become more than familiar with lately -- including everything from "Watchmen" and "The Spirit" to "The Dark Knight." Heck, there was even a quick cameo for Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns."

See if you can spot the guest spot for Miller's iconic creation in the frame below:

But that wasn't all comics fans could get a kick out of in last night's "South Park." Read More...
