It seems like every time you turn on the television this week, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" star Hugh Jackman is popping his claws for the camera. This morning on ESPN2's morning show "First Take," Jackman was in front of the camera once again, talking sports with Wolverine superfan Brian Dawkins -- who also just happens to be a Pro Bowl safety for the Denver Broncos.
Along with sharing his thoughts on why Wolverine's powers might not assure success on the field, Jackman chatted with Dawkins about their respective collections of Wolverine merchandise. Jackman's favorite? A "Wolverine" movie punching bag that he gave his son which, according to Jackman, his son likes to "wail away on" whenever he gets sent to his room.
Well, it's better than a do-it-yourself adamantium bone-coating kit, I guess.
What do you think of Jackman's ESPN appearance? Impressed with the "Wolverine" star's bench press? Think Wolverine could find success on the football field? Let us know!
The release date for the DC/Warner Brothers animated feature "Green Lantern: First Flight" was moved up to July 21 earlier this month, but now it looks like the film has yet another new release date. Until we hear otherwise, the film will now hit shelves on its original release date of July 28, 2009.
DC/Warner Brothers announced the shift in scheduling this week, and accompanied it with the debut of new cover art for "First Flight," which will be the fifth feature-length animated film for the DC Universe Animated line. Rated PG-13, "First Flight" will feature the voices of Christopher Meloni (“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”) as Hal Jordan, Tricia Helfer (“Battlestar Galactica”) as Boodikka, Michael Madsen (“Reservoir Dogs”) as Kilowog and Victor Garber (“Milk”) as Sinestro. FROM MTV.COM: All week long, we've been chatting up the stars of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and getting the scoop on the razor-clawed old friends and sword-wielding cinematic rookies that fuel the flick. But there's only one name that fans have been shouting ever since the original "X-Men" film began its development: Gambit.
"I remember as a kid seeing him [in the comics]," 28-year-old "Friday Night Lights" actor Taylor Kitsch recalled, explaining his memories of the beloved mutant he finally puts on the silver screen on Friday. "I remember thinking, 'Man, this guy is cool!' and 'He really just doesn't give a sh-- about what other people think!'. And those are two pretty incredible things to play and bring to life."
Ever since the enigmatic Remy Etienne LeBeau was introduced in the pages of "Uncanny X-Men" in 1990, he has ranked among the most popular members of the mutant universe. Born in Louisiana and flavored by some early experiences as a professional thief, he came to be known as Gambit — a term that refers to his ability to maneuver into a position of advantage, both in battle and at games of chance.
For more from Taylor Kitsch on Gambit and "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," as well as video interviews with the "Wolverine" cast, head over to Movies.MTV.com.
IDW Publishing's comic book series "Fallen Angel" will be returning this July after a six-month hiatus, but the hero of the series won't be making her triumphant return to comic shop shelves alone -- she'll be joined by a very special guest from the world of fan-favorite creator Joss Whedon.
After completing its previous run in January, the "Fallen Angel" series co-created by writer Peter David will return in a few months for a four-part story titled, appropriately enough, "Fallen Angel: Reborn." Along with bringing back Liandra, the hero of the series, the new arc will also feature the depowered demon Illyria from the "Angel" television series. Played by actress Amy Acker in the TV series, Illyria is a demon who played a significant role in the final season of "Angel" -- and if the preview is any indication, she's likely to cause some big problems for the "Fallen Angel" regulars, too.
Read on for more details about the series, as well as a five-page, unlettered preview of "Fallen Angel: Reborn," featuring interior and cover art by J.K. Woodard. Read more...
Say what you will about "Live Free or Die Hard," but you have to give Bruce Willis some credit. At 54 years old, the bald-headed action star is still kicking butt and taking names all over Hollywood, and there's no signs that he's slowing down anytime soon. Quite the opposite, in fact.
According to Risky Business Blog, Willis is being courted to star in "Red," an adaptation of the Wildstorm/DC Comics property of the same name by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner. Summit, the same studio that backs the smash-hit "Twilight" films, is behind the production of "Red," and they're negotiating with the occasional John McClane to star in the picture -- though nothing is set in stone. We've debuted a bunch of new clips from "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" this week, including the first look at Dominic Monaghan as the mutant Bolt and a two-part Wolverine vs. Blob brawl, but today's clip puts Logan front and center. Now that the word is out that Deadpool and Weapon XI are one and the same in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" -- a significant, less mouthy departure from the comic books in more ways than one -- it's natural to wonder how a faithful "Deadpool" spin-off movie could ever occur. Luckily, Ryan Reynolds is dreaming up some ideas.
"I'm thinking musical -- Rated 'R' musical," Reynolds joked with MTV News. "It hasn't been done. Deadpool singing, dancing... dancing girls..."
Even though he's kidding, that idea isn't too far off -- in order to make a successful "Deadpool" movie, you have to break down the fourth wall, according to Reynolds. Read more...
Megan Fox has earned herself a good chunk of geek cred with starring roles in both "Transformers" films, but she's just now starting to cross over into the land of comic book cinema. The 22-year-old actress claims to have been a lifelong comic reader with a penchant for the late Michael Turner's artwork -- which is why her upcoming turn as the lead character in "Fathom" is nothing short of a dream come true.
"['Fathom' is] a comic book property by my favorite artist, Michael Turner," Fox told USA Weekend during a photo shoot with herself and soon-to-be "Green Hornet" star Seth Rogen. "It's about this underwater race of people, and it's plausible, really, because so much of the ocean is unexplored. We don't really know what's under there. It could be happening, which I like." Yesterday, I wrote a confessional blog entry talking about how guilty I feel for falling in love with Deadpool. But going into a recent screening of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” I was all about eyeballing one long-awaited character: Gambit.
Although he’s relatively young in the Marvel universe, the New Orleans-born card-shark has long been among my favorite “X-Men” characters. So maybe some fans will allow me one more completely embarrassing revelation: When I walked into a room to interview Taylor Kitsch this past weekend, I noticed that playing cards had been tossed all over the floor for ambiance.
And a chill went right up my geeky spine. Read more...
Sure, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" doesn't hit the multiplex circuit until this Friday (unless of course you're one of the lucky fans that live in Tempe, AZ), but that certainly isn't stopping the actor who's become synonymous with Marvel's franchise hero, Hugh Jackman, from dishing on where he'd like to take Wolvie on his next epic adventure -- both in terms of story and location.
"I won't lie to you, I have been talking to writers," Jackman told MTV News. "I'm a big fan of the Japanese saga in the comic book." Read more...
