Ever since Michel Gondry landed the gig as director of Seth Rogen’s highly-anticipated “Green Hornet” movie, we’ve been eager to get any details we can on the project. Now, the casting is coming together -- and includes a special cameo by the old Hornet.
“Yeah, I think we’re going to have Van Williams,” Gondry revealed to MTV News during a recent interview. “We’re going to find a cameo for him.”
For those who don’t remember the classic show from the ‘60s, the square-jawed Williams portrayed the Green Hornet alongside Bruce Lee’s Kato. Gondry told us that Williams, now 75-years-old, recently reached out to him for a cameo -- and the director is planning to find a small moment for him in the film.
“He asked us to,” Gondry explained. “It’s going to be exciting.”
Speaking of casting, the visionary filmmaker -- whose new DVD “More Videos” is now on sale -- told us that we can expect casting news any day now on a household name playing the Green Hornet’s nemesis.
“The villain is going to be horrible,” explained Gondry. “He has a gun with two cannons; he can shoot people in both eyes with one shot.”
“I hope I’m going to get the actor I want,” the director added. “I can’t say his name, but believe me -- he’s going to be scary like hell.”
Gondry also seemed to indicate that the hired actor won’t be playing a classic Hornet villain along the lines of Mr. X, Dr. Mabouse or Oliver Perry, but instead might be a wholly new character. Seth Rogen’s “The Green Hornet” begins shooting soon, and is targeting a June 25, 2010 release.
Are you happy to hear that the original Green Hornet is getting a cameo? Who do you think is going to play Gondry’s villain?
