Everybody's talking about tomorrow's annual Free Comic Book Day event. Thanks in part to "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" star Hugh Jackman's public service announcement, the excitement has extended far beyond participating comic retailer walls.
With so much buzz surrounding the celebration, the event's 2 million free comics could circulate more than any other year.
With that in mind, Splash Page has your guide to the titles that tie in with some of this summer's most anticipated comic book movies and other film favorites.
WOLVERINE: ORIGIN OF AN X-MAN (Marvel): Just in time for the opening weekend of "Wolverine," this issue tells the story of Logan's time as the lone agent of Canada's Weapon X. First-time readers can catch up on Wolverine's comic book history and see how much it mirrors the new movie.
TRANSFORMERS ANIMATED/G.I. JOE (IDW): Hasbro's two hottest toy lines are both hitting theaters this summer.
While the comic is based on the Transformers' latest animated series rather than "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" and the 'Joe tale is rooted in current comics continuity instead of "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra," mythos, it's a good place to get familiar with many of this summer's leading combatants.
TMNT #1 25TH ANNIVERSARY REPRINT (Mirage Studios): Hot on the heels of last week's announcement of an all-new live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film, this reprint of the turtle's first appearance takes readers back to the mutant ninja's black and white roots.
Movie fans will also want to check out Dark Horse's "Aliens/Predator" and "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," titles, which expand film lore with fresh looks at familiar characters.
Animated film fans can pick up Boom! Studios' free edition of "Disney/Pixar's Cars" #1, which tells the origin of racer Lightning McQueen and Bongo Comics' "Bongo Comics Free-For-All!" for "The Simpsons" and "Futurama" tales.
If that's not enough, Green Lantern fans awaiting the delayed "Green Lantern: First Flight," can grab "Blackest Night" #0 to catch up on Hal Jordan's latest comic adventures.
Excited for Free Comic Book Day? Which titles are you most excited to pick up? Sound off in the comments.
