The Bradley Cooper as Green Lantern casting rumor hasn't even begun to cool down, and already there are new names being thrown into the ring for the coveted role of Hal Jordan.
Unnamed sources are telling Latino Review that newcomer actor Shawn Roberts and "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" star Brian Austin Green are both in contention for the lead role in director Martin Campbell's "Green Lantern" adaptation, set to release on June 17, 2011.
Roberts is said to have auditioned for Campbell "various times" and has met with the director to discuss the role and the film. He also has an advantage in that he recently wrapped filming on Campbell's "Edge of Darkness." The site is also quick to point out that Roberts is 25 years old, falling right in the optimal age range for a younger Hal Jordan.
Meanwhile, the site claims that Green has also auditioned for the role, going so far as to wear the famous Green Lantern mask. According to Latino Review's source, Green is considered to be a longshot due to his older age. Even if the actor doesn't land the "Green Lantern" gig, Green will still have a connection to comic book cinema for a time to come -- his girlfriend Megan Fox, currently filming "Jonah Hex," is attached to star in "Fathom," which Green will co-produce.
Maybe the most concrete news you can take from these latest casting rumors is that Campbell has definitely not made up his mind about who will play the heroic superhero. With the film's release date pushed back six months, it's likely we'll be hearing a lot more stories like this in the weeks to come.
