Just last week, word broke via Jon Favreau's never-ending Twitter rampage that Tony Stark and Nick Fury -- the heroic "Iron Man 2" leads played by Robert Downey Jr. and Samuel L. Jackson respectively -- had shot their very first scene of the film together.
Given the two characters' proclivity towards high-octane action -- Tony being a superhero and Nick being a super-spy, after all -- fans got to salivating thinking that these two comic book icons would be back to back trading firepower with renegade HYDRA Agents or similar baddies.
Well, salivation may continue, but it's for an entirely different reason -- the debuting scene between Iron Man and the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. appears to be over a delectable dozen-pack of donuts. A series of photos from On Location News shows the two iconic comic book heroes in full costume on the set of a Los Angeles donut shop.
Photos of Robert Downey Jr. taking a pastry pause amidst his superhero stunts already surfaced online, but the latest round of photos indicates that his character will actually be munching on some snacks in the movie, sunglasses and all. As his red-and-gold helmet is not far from Tony's reach, it looks like a bona fide break in Iron Man's crime-fighting day.
Nick Fury, on the other hand, is making his first behind-the-scenes photo debut ever. The character was a not-so-well-kept secret in the first "Iron Man," but his presence was nonetheless kept under wraps -- at least in terms of photographic evidence.
Now, the one-eyed warrior (hey, if the shoe fits!) can be seen in broad daylight in his all-black suit -- we're talking matching boots, pants, belt, shirt, trench coat and eyepatch, all in a sleek obsidian shade that's sure to absorb some of that hard-beating sunshine.
If nothing else, it's fun to check out these photos of Fury because you genuinely can't tell whether Jackson's already in character. In one particular image, Jackson looks directly at the camera with a thinly-veiled look of "I'm going to eat you for breakfast" that would be becoming on either the actor or the S.H.I.E.L.D. operative. Just a testament to the impressive casting of this intimidating character.
What do you think of the latest "Iron Man 2" photos? Are they instilling confidence in the superhero sequel or are you not convinced? Grab a donut and meet us in the comments!
