Forget about the Arnold Schwarzenegger cameo and the Linda Hamilton tapes –- the most interesting aspect of "Terminator Salvation" might be the curious fact that it features two very-different actors connected with the superhero Green Lantern.
It’s no secret that burly actor/rapper Common was slated to play John Stewart in the now-stuck-in-development-hell “Justice League of America” movie. And as separate plans have evolved into a solo film centering on Hal Jordan, Sam Worthington’s name also keeps popping up.
“I don’t know about that,” Worthington told MTV News. An old friend of "Green Lantern" director Martin Campbell, Worthington insists he’s waiting to read a script, and could just as easily pass. “I couldn’t really see myself in green spandex, mate."
Make no mistake about it: Worthington is the real star of “Terminator Salvation,” as Christian Bale’s John Connor often takes a backseat to the primary tale of half-human/half-Terminator Marcus Wright, portrayed by the 32-year-old Australian. And if the movie is a hit, it could make him into a household name worthy of his own superhero franchise.
“I don’t know yet, man,” Worthington said of the “GL” rumors. “There’s heaps of rumors online. There was one that I was going to be Batman, wasn’t it?”
As a matter of fact, there was a goofy rumor a few months back that Worthington would replace his “Salvation” co-star in the “Dark Knight” sequel. But after spending countless hours with Bale on set, Worthington isn’t so sure he’d ever want to play a comic book character.
“[Bale] told me stories about Batman and the cowl, how heavy the cape was,” Worthington laughed. “So, it didn’t sound that appealing -- he was sweating his ass off.”
Shooting down that report initially published in Australia’s Herald Sun, Worthington said the report came from “probably one of my mates.”
As for Green Lantern, however, Worthington would only say that he’ll block out Bale’s tales of woe and keep an open mind while he reads the script.
“There’s stories out there, and I like stories about people who get knocked down and they have to build themselves back up,” he explained. “That heroic tale really appeals to me.”
Would Sam Worthington make a good Hal Jordan? If not, who would you cast?
