Director Edgar Wright opens up on his latest "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" video blog with a peek at one of the film's big fight scenes. In what could very well be the scene actor Mark Webber described several months ago, the warehouse after-party scene looks like it will showcase Ramona Flowers' "+2 Against Girls" hammer in her showdown against Roxy Richter, played by Mae Whitman.
"There's a lot of dialogue and a lot of action," Wright explained in the video posted on the film's official website. "Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Mae Whitman have both been doing wonders in their parts."
Winstead offered some insight into their preparation for the role, sounding a lot like Webber when he described the musical training he had to undergo for the movie.
"We started training, obviously, for like three months before we started shooting," Winstead explained. "And then I've been training on weekends and stuff to get ready for it recently."
The after party shoot included a huge crowd of extras, mainly Scott Pilgrim and Edgar Wright fans, as one of the casting directors described. The mob plays a mishmash of partygoers, insider snobs, trendy gossipers, and industry wannabes along the sidelines of the fight.
If the enthusiasm the extras seem to have in this video carries over into the movie, they may just give it the perfect injection of "Street Fighter II" background character passion these fight scenes deserve.
