It's been nearly a month since J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" made headlines for its impressive opening weekend, but Trekkies old and new still have plenty of unanswered questions when it comes to the rebooted franchise -- especially concerning the reimagined histories of its main characters. In that shared spirit of curiosity, IDW will release a new four-issue miniseries centering on Starfleet's favorite half-Vulcan entitled "Spock: Reflections" beginning in July.
Written by Scott Tipton and David Tipton ("Star Trek: Mirror Images") with art by David Messina ("Star Trek: Countdown"), "Reflections," aims to round out Spock's origins by shedding light on his activities leading up to the events of the film, specifically his childhood on the planet Romulus.
While not a direct sequel to the current New York Times Best-Seller "Star Trek: Countdown," the series continues to take a wider look at the alternate timeline the new Enterprise calls home.
“The new movie offers so much new material for Star Trek fans that we knew we had to do more than just 'Countdown' to help create as complete an experience as possible,” said Scott Dunbier, IDW’s Star Trek editor. “This series offers a candid and occasionally poignant look at Spock.”

In our exclusive preview, Spock can be seen wearing what appears to be a uniform from 1982's "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan," which might inspire a few of raised eyebrows of the Leonard Nimoy (or Zachary Quinto) variety among fans.
Is this detail highly illogical, or perhaps an intended glimpse into pre-existing continuity? Readers will just have to wait until "Reflections" hits stands later this summer to find out.
Excited for an expansion of the latest "Trek" mythos? Does a new Spock resonate the same Vulcan vibe? Let your voice be heard in the comments.
