'Rob Zombie'Shortly after his mammoth graphic novel "The Haunted World Of El Superbeasto" was released by Image Comics in 2007, Scream Award-nominated director Rob Zombie told MTV News that the animated version of his "superhero monster sex comedy" was finished as well. The comics-friendly music maestro and White Zombie founder who recently contributed to the "Punisher: War Zone" soundtrack now says that the feature film's release date is still up in the air and has no problem throwing down some harsh words to express his frustrations behind the scenes.

"The movie is f---ing awesome," Zombie told SlashFilm. "[T]he f---ing behind-the-scenes stuff on that movie has been so f---ed up. You would not believe the sh-- that has been going on." Read More...

'Bubblegum Crisis'Bubblegum is no longer just a chewable treat, it's officially a crisis. Well, it's been a crisis since the 1980s in the form of the much-beloved Japanese anime and manga series "Bubblegum Crisis" -- and that crisis is about to head overseas in a big way.

A live-action feature film adaptation of "Bubblegum Crisis" is officially in the works, says The Hollywood Reporter. Six different production companies are teaming together to bring the movie to life, spearheaded by Singapore's Axxis International -- whose Benjamin Toh will executive produce -- and including Tokyo's Anime International Company, Australia's Arclight Films, Canada's Wizzfilms, China's Infotainment China Media Co. and the U.K.'s Latex International. 'Alan Cumming'When last we heard from the "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark" front (that being the upcoming, $40M Broadway spectacular featuring a musical score by U2's Bono and The Edge, in case you're just tuning in), the show's legendary director, Julie Taymor, offered MTV an exclusive update on where casting for the show currently stood. Taymor said talks with Evan Rachel Wood were progressing for the role of Mary Jane, and that she was still searching for an actor to play the title role.

However, in a blink-and-you-would've-missed-it quote, Taymor also hinted at who the main villain in the Spidey musical would be -- namely, the Green Goblin -- and today, the New York Post is reporting that Alan Cumming is currently in negotiations for the role of Marvel's notorious pumpkin bomber. 'Human Target'Earlier this week we brought you the news that the pilot for a television series based on DC/Vertigo's "Human Target" so impressed Fox that the network ordered a full season of the series. Now we have our first peek at the episode that network execs seem to have such a high opinion of -- in the form of an image that popped up on the 'Net today.

The crew over at KryptonSite posted the new image (I've posted a smaller version of it here), which features actor Mark Valley ("Fringe") as Christopher Chance, the star of the series. Valley plays a bodyguard who provides clients with a unique form of protection: he pretends to be the endangered person in order to lure them out. Read More...

Back in September, actor Derek Luke made major waves when he apparently revealed to us the kind of insider scuttlebutt that typically only gets whispered between actors, agents and casting directors. The top contender to star in the “Captain America” movie was... Will Smith?

At the time, Marvel shot down the rumor, and Smith himself also laughed it off. So, if there’s nothing to it, then why do actors keep bringing it up?

“I’ve heard rumors that Will Smith might be doing it,” Channing Tatum told MTV News Monday, adding: “He might be signing on to do it.” Read More...

FROM MTV MOVIES: As far as summer 2009 is concerned, the red-hot writing pair behind "Star Trek" aren't finished with us yet. Their second strike hits soon with the June 24 blockbuster "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," and these days the screenwriting duo are dreaming about further blurring the lines of pop-culture.

"I'd love to write a scene where Spock meets Optimus Prime," Alex Kurtzman laughed.

"I guess we did," his partner Roberto Orci revealed, making reference to the "Transformers" character who uses TV and radio signals to speak. "Because at one point we have Bumblebee [in the new film] using audio from 'Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan.'"

'Batman: The Brave and the Bold'The kids-friendly cartoon series "Batman: The Brave and the Bold" has been rolling along at The Cartoon Network, and as the show gains steam it's been earning itself a heap of fans from the comics community for a variety of reasons -- one of those being its willingness to explore some pretty obscure characters from the Dark Knight's history. Case in point: Crazy Quilt.

[UPDATE: According to WB, this episode won't air until next week, May, 22.]

This week's episode puts Batman and Robin up against the diabolical machinations of one of my favorite go-to characters whenever the subject of bizarre comic book villains comes up in conversation (and that happens more often than you'd expect, really). The color-commanding villain uses the power of the rainbow to battle DC's Dynamic Duo and, even better, is voiced by "Arrested Development" star Jeffrey Tambor. Read More...

Boodikka in 'Green Lantern: First Flight'There's no doubt that the upcoming live-action "Green Lantern" film is hogging online attention lately, but don't discount "Green Lantern: First Flight," the DC Universe animated movie heading to DVD and Blu-Ray in July. Focused specifically on Hal Jordan's space-oriented mythos, the cartoon adventure is sure to boast plenty of laughs, sci-fi goodness and action thanks to the watchful eye of Lauren Montgomery.

As the director of the March-released "Wonder Woman" animated feature, Montgomery has some experience with what makes the DC Universe tick from both a storytelling and visual standpoint. And if you asked the talented animation maven herself, she'd tell you that the voice actors behind "First Flight" have a similar level of understanding and ability. Read More...
